BEAUTY GENERATION – WILL SUNDAY BE HIS LAST RACE?

By Darren Winningham | Friday, December 6, 2019

Speculation is rife about the future of Beauty Generation.

The champion is chasing his third consecutive LONGINES International Hong Kong Mile on Sunday and I was fortunate to catch up with Beauty Generation’s owner and his family at the barrier draw for the big race.

Patrick Kwok Ho-chuen comes from one of Hong Kong’s most powerful racing families, but it does not stop the 27-year-old from pinching himself every time his champion Beauty Generation goes around.

Most horse owners will go their entire life without a champion, but Kwok has been lucky to have seven Group One winners before his mid-20s, something he still struggles to believe at times.

“It is very special, there is no other way to describe it,” he said.

“My family has owned a lot of good horses, Beauty Only, Beauty Flash, but nothing quite like this superstar.

“He is just a monster. We are so happy to have him. He has a lot of character.”

While the history books will forever show Beauty Generation to be owned by Kwok, he is the first to pay tribute to the contribution made by his father, Simon Kwok Siu-ming, chairman and CEO of cosmetics giant Sa Sa.

I feel lucky more than anything. I am blessed to have it under my name,” he said.

Kwok was very measured when I asked him about the future of his champion seven-year-old come Sunday.

“We will take it race by race, we will see how he performs, but he may be retired after this run,” he said.

Beauty Generation rewrote the history books in Hong Kong when he resumed in the Group 3 Celebration Cup over 1400 metres and broke the Sha Tin track record. That was his tenth straight win and seventh Group One victory.

Regardless of the outcome on Sunday – Beauty Generation will truly go down in Hong Kong racing folklore with the likes previous Hong Kong sensations Able Friend and Designs on Rome.

One thing is for sure this fan will be wishing jockey Zac Purton, trainer John Moore and owner Patrick Kwok all the best of luck come Sunday.

I will be looking for those distinctive pink sleeves and cap with black silks and white dots to be in front when it matters most.

Come on Beauty Generation – one more time for all your fans!
