SCST OCT 04 - MOAMA DOMINANT FROM START TO FINISH

By Graham Potter | Monday, October 5, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 4, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
3yo QTIS Maiden Plate (Set Weights) - 1000m. Time: 58.42.
1 Moama; 2 Golden Success; 3 Dulbydilla.

The Brian Gentle trained Moama came home to an untroubled win in her second career start. The 4.00 length winning margin, without being pushed out, told the story of a run that was dominant from start to finish.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Brian Gentle: “We actually trialled her at Ballina before she raced and I got Scottie (Seamer) to ride her there. I think she is a filly with a lot of potential. At this stage she’ll sort of go to a Saturday race. I scratched her yesterday (at Doomben) in Kiss Me Katy’s race. Just mainly because I couldn’t get a decent rider (Seamer was riding in Sydney) and she also drew awkward. So she’ll go to a Saturday three-year-old in two weeks and then on to a Listed race in December.

“The instructions to Scottie were just ride her like she was the best horse in the race, because she was. She is going to be better as she gets over a bit further ... like today was too short ... and when she can get a better sit. She’ll be a better chaser than a leader.”

Jockey Scott Seamer: “She romped in. That’s probably the first time I had time to have a look at the infield screen. I looked each side and nothing was there and I thought, oh I’ll just look at the screen to check and they were nowhere near me.

“In her first run (when finishing a close-up third) she was just a little bit immature and she wouldn’t take the run in-between them. Today in blinkers she was just a bit more switched on and she was never going to get beat. She is a nice filly and each time she goes around she’ll get better. You know, she’ll progress to city class, no worries at all.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Moama): 3.50 out to 3.80.
Favourite (Spinning Mira): 3.10 to 3.50.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Iveradacious (M. Radecker) and Spinning Mira (L. Cassidy) were both slow to begin. Empezar (K. Pope), Sudden Force (M. Cahill) and Toptwo (D. Browne) were all tightened for room at the start between All Diehard (J. Byrne), which shifted in, and Edwardscissorhands (L. Appo), which began awkwardly and shifted out.

Near the 900m, Iveradacious (M. Radecker) was tightened for room between Dulbydilla (A. Spinks) and Moama (S. Seamer), which shifted out. Leaving the 800m, Toptwo (D. Browne) had to be steadied when crowded for room between All Diehard (J. Byrne) and Sudden Force, which was racing greenly and shifted out.

Leaving the 700m, Spinning Mira (L. Cassidy), which was racing greenly and had a tendency to hang out, had to be checked from the heels of Edwardscissorhands, which shifted in marginally away from Laramie (J. Taylor), which also had a tendency to lay in when racing greenly. Spinnning Mira then continued to hang out until approaching the home turn.

Empezar (K. Pope) hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. Laramie (J. Taylor) was inclined to lay outwards under pressure in the early stages of the straight. All Diehard and Iveradacious raced wide throughout.
