SCST OCT 04 - NO FEAR OF HEIGHTS WINS FIRST-UP

By Graham Potter | Monday, October 5, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 4, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
Maiden Plate (Set Weights) - 1200m. Time: 1-13.13.
1 No Fear Of Heights; 2 Choosawinner; 3 Maali.

There wasn’t much to beat here, but all you can do is win your race. As such, it was a reasonably important step for the lightly raced, five-year-old mare No Fear Of Heights to step up to the mark in her first-up start following a six month layoff. It was her first run for her new stable.

No Fear Of Heights had finished off her previous prep with three successive runner-up finishes and that form was streets ahead of anything else on offer here. The mare duly delivered, coming from midfield with a well timed run to get the result.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Louise White: “This is her first run for me. She’s been in probably nine weeks. She’s going to be a stayer, but the owner told me she goes good fresh. It was an excellent ride. He (jockey Michael Cahill) rated her perfectly.”

Jockey Michael Cahill: “She was the only horse in the race with a semblance of form. It was her race provided she ran up to her best form after a spell ... which she did luckily. She had a nice run and they went a reasonable tempo. She finished off pretty good.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (No fear Of Heights): 3.50 out to 3.60.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Hey Jamie (S. Katsidis) began awkwardly and lost ground. Lunar Life (J. Wood) was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, Legal Street (K. Sawyers) was buffeted between Scarsbrook (A. Spinks) and Bear'sagun (L. Appo), both of which shifted ground. Passing the 1000m, Tudor Arcade (M. Radecker) had to be steadied when tightened for room between Airworthy (L. Cassidy) and Bear'sagun, which shifted in. Hey Jamie raced wide in the early stages.

Public Image (J. Byrne) commenced to over-race leaving the 1000m and shifted wider on the track and then continued to over-race in the early and middle stages.

Leaving the 200m, Maali (M. Hellyer) shifted out around the heels of Public Image to obtain clear running. No Fear Of Heights (M. Cahill) had a tendency to lay inwards over the concluding stages under pressure.
