SCST OCT 04 - LUCKY DELUCHI COMES OUT FIGHTING

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 4, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
Class 1 Handicap - 1000m. Time: 58.42.
1 Lucky Deluchi; 2 Ourkohinoor; 3 Hotel Of The Stars.

Trainer Bruce Hill brought up a double on the day when the lightly raced Lucky Deluchi scored a first-up win, coming home a little more easily than the official one length margin suggests.

Lucky Deluchi’s win, coming off the back of a ten month layoff in only his third career start, was full of promise as the gelding seized the initiative early in the straight and sustained his effort in the run home to win in convincing style.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bruce Hill: “I think he is a city class horse. He had a long time off. He hurt himself while he was out spelling and he had to have a bit longer off than we planned. We were getting him ready and he whacked his leg so we had to wait for the swelling to go down so he had to wait a bit longer. We gave him a trial the other week and I though, ah, I’ll use this as his second trial. He is a good galloper.”

Jockey Paul Hammersley: “He trialled very well at the Coast last week. It was a good win here. He’ll probably go on to a Saturday class now.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Lucky Deluchi): 2.30 in to 1.90 out to 2.05.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Lucky Deluchi (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin. Hesanothadollar (C. Small) began awkwardly.

Near the 900m, Hotel Of The Stars (C. Reith) had to be steadied when tightened for room to the inside of Ourkohinoor (A. Spinks), which shifted in and away from I'm Hot (S. Katsidis), which was inclined to lay in despite the efforts of its rider.

Passing the 600m, I'm Hot (S. Katsidis), which commenced to over-race, had to be steadied from the heels of Asenjar (K. Sawyers). A short distance later, I'm Hot (S. Katsidis) shifted out, making contact with Hesanothadollar (C. Small), which was taken wider on the track.

Hotel Of The Stars (C. Reith) was held up for clear running from nearing the home turn and until approaching the 200m. Leaving the 300m, Ourkohinoor (A. Spinks) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with Asenjar, which was forced outwards, inconveniencing Thatsrough (D. Gill). A. Spinks, rider of Ourkohinoor, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
