SCST OCT 04 - MILLERS WHEEL SHOWS HIS TRUE COLOURS

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 4, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 4m.
Open Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-24.40.
1 Millers Wheel; 2 Daedalus; 3 Craiglea Warrior.

The Andrew Williamson trained Millers Wheel confirmed his preference for the Sunshine Coast track when he finished strongly to win with some authority. This was the chestnut’s seventh win from thirteen starts at the track and he also has three minor placings to his credit at the course.

Jockey Stathi Katsidis brought the six-year-old with a flashing run from off the speed and the gelding raced to the front with the minimum of fuss to easily account for the better fancied Daedalus who finished second, 1.50 lengths off the winner.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Andrew Williamson: “Stathi (Katsidis) was just saying, he’s just got to be held up early and get a bit of speed in the race. He holds his own in town. He’ll win one day in town, I hope ... but, you know, he needs that pace on. He just seems to love this track though. Just loves it!”

Jockey Stathi Katsidis: “Yeah, he is the sort of horse you have got to force to get back. The other day I let him be midfield and just he doesn’t hit the line then.

“Today I just strangled him back because he was over-racing early. But when you make him do that he hits the line really good. I think he generally prefers to get to the outside as well, so everything worked out perfectly. He is the sort of horse that needs a lot of luck, but when things go his way he wins quite well. He looked awesome today, didn’t he? I wasn’t certain if he would run 1400m, but he did a good job.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Millers Wheel): 5.00 out to 6.00.
Favourite (Daedalus): 2.40 steady.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Near the 600m, Craiglea Warrior (L. Appo) shifted out to improve, forcing Riseupsinging (M. Radecker) wider on the track. Riseupsinging (M. Radecker) raced wide throughout.
