‘DOUBLE H’ - A BRAND WORTH FOLLOWING

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 6, 2009

A couple of quiet achievers have been getting good results around tracks in South East Queensland.

Trainer Bruce Hill and jockey Paul Hammersley prefer to avoid the spotlight. They are not flash in the way they go about things. There is no grandstanding ... not even a hint of self-praise. Just a quiet professionalism geared to obtaining results.

Hill is ever-watchful, quietly weighing up the merits of his runners, plotting their progress and planning what moves would best secure future success.

Hammersley is just as low-key. Speak to him after any win and he will immediately deflect credit onto the horse which invariably would have, in Hammersley’s words, “made my job easy.” Never mind that he is on occasions out-riding the likes of Cassidy and Katsidis in a tight finish, Hammersley always downplays his role.

Hill and Hammersley were on the boil at Coloundra on Sunday. Hill saddled three runners and went home with three winners. Hammersley rode the Hill treble. The full house at the Sunshine Coast added to the recent run of success that the stable has been having.

HRO have labelled Hill and Hammersley the ‘Double H’ team. It is a brand worth keeping an eye on.
