DOOM OCT 07 - TROUBLE-FREE SUCCESS FOR OUR SCOOBY DOO

By Graham Potter | Thursday, October 8, 2009

Doomben, October 07, 2009
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 8m.
Class 5 Handicap - 1650m. Time: 1-39.70.
1 Our Scooby Doo; 2 Gee Whiz; 3 Fat Possum.

The John Fitzgerald trained Our Scooby Doo, who was on a quick, four day back-up from Saturday’s meeting at Doomben, scored an untroubled win here.

The six-year-old landed in the leading line before settling in the box seat as Gee Whiz and Fat Possum led the field down the back straight. Jockey Tony Pattillo was able to give Our Scooby Doo the run of the race without asking for any undue effort and the gelding turned for home perfectly poised to strike in the home straight.

There was never a hint of a hiccup in a tidy run to the line as Our Scooby Doo eased his way to the head of affairs with the minimum of fuss to win in copybook fashion by a comfortable two length margin.

This was the gelding’s fifth win from 27 starts. Our Scooby Doo also has seven minor placings to his credit.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer John Fitzgerald: “You know his run was good on Saturday (where Our Scooby Doo finished third, just a long-neck behind Tarrayoukyan). He dropped a grade and he dropped 1kg, so he had to be very hard to beat today. He is a good honest horse, so I’m very pleased for the people who own him.

“I’m going to try him over a bit further. You know, he sort of whacks away a little bit, but he does just keep going. He’s handled the mile well enough so I’m going to try him over a bit further.”

Jockey Tony Pattillo: “I’m just so very happy to break my run of ‘outs’. The race worked out perfect, mate. I saw Jason Taylor (on Gee Whiz) and Mitch Speers (on Fat Possum) sort of go across to lead. The speed was nice. We got a very nice track into it. Ididn’t have to do any work until I straightened up. Pulled out ... the horse really sprinted good. I think there are a few more wins in store for him.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Derry City twisted a plate and required farrier attention prior to proceeding to the start. Kinsmate (J. Byrne) was slow to begin. Derry City (S. Katsidis) began awkwardly. Social Gathering (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout and finished a distant last.
