WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 3, 2020

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 1, 2020

This weekend we head back to headquarters after being on the road to the GOLD COAST and then TOOWOOMBA last weekend. The races are on at EAGLE FARM where the track is rated “GOOD” and the rail is in the true position.

Some massive racing down in the southern states this weekend – RANDWICK and FLEMINGTON.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day

Race 1

The first two-year-old race in town in Queensland this year – here we go!

The Toowoomba spies say that this Michael Nolan Flying Artie filly – Princess Bojack (7) goes very well. The trial win was solid and impressive – Michael Cahill aboard who has wonderful hands with youngsters. There is a lot to like about this runner if she lives up to the hype and can handle Eagle Farm.

Steven O’Dea Racing has Stellar Magic (9) on debut here after a solid second in a recent trial. Ben Thompson is aboard her and she has been smashed in the markets firming from $5 to $3.50.

Mishani Untamed (8) and Mishani Trouble (5) are both trained by Les Ross Racing. He did manage to quinella the first two-year-old race of the season last weekend in Toowoomba – can he repeat the dose again this weekend? They both have trialled well. Stable apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson and Jimmy Orman will ride them again this weekend as well, as they did for the Ross duo at Toowoomba – can lightning strike twice?

Keep your eye on the Robert Heathcote runner Yangari (6). With the unfortunate news regarding stable sensation Rothfire, he deserves a change in fortune. This Spirit of Boom colt has run two solid trials and I really think he has plenty to offer. Note the blinkers go on this weekend for his race debut – he will be a blow out chance at generous odds.

Selections:

6 – Yangari
7 – Princess Bojack
9 – Stellar Magic
8 – Mishani Untamed
Rough chances – (2) Headlander – (5) Mishani Trouble

Race 2

The race is the distance race – YAWN.

Chris Waller Racing has two runners here. Stardome (2) to be ridden by Luke Dittman and He Runs Away (4) with Mark Du Plessis in the saddle. After Luke guided Alward for the stable to victory in the Toowoomba Cup last weekend I will stay with him here to get another stayer across the line. He has won at the track as well.

The stable mate He Runs Away (4) has not won a race in 202 weeks – that is not a positive review for his chances here!

Scott Morrisey has Backlog (5) engaged and Sean Cormack stay aboard this weekend. He gets a look at 2400 metres for the first time – I think he maps well for this race. If he can settle and storm home, he is a big chance.

Maybach (6) is the likely leader here – he may just box on with the light weight and pull their pants down.

Selections:

2 – Stardome
4 – He Runs Away
5 – Backlog
6 – Maybach

Race 3

Neutron (4) flashed home last start after a 15-week spell at Doomben to be narrowly defeated by Safework (8). I think second up and, wikth the extra distance and the wide track, he will be suited here this weekend to reverse the result. He is an Aquis horse trained by Kacy Fogden and Andrew Mallyon stays aboard.

Mass Destruction (6) is a Tony Gollan runner who has been looking for 1400 metres for mine. He is a gelding who needs time to settle in the field and make one sprint at them late. This small field will enhance his chances to settle and then come wide late – Ryan Maloney is in the saddle.

Safework (8) comes off a great win at Doomben over 1350 metres. He will enjoy the extra distance and has performed well here. Just the rise in the weight this weekend concerns me.

Bryan and Daniel Guy – the Guy Racing team - train I Am Swerving (2). This gelding made his debut for the new stable last start in a midweek race with a dominant win in maiden company. Stepping up in distance, I am certain that Bryan Guy will be quietly confident that he can take the step to Saturday class or else he would not be taking up this challenge.

Selections:

4 – Neutron
6 – Mass Destruction
8 – Safework
2 – I Am Swerving

Race 4

Only ten runners here – Class 3.

Prospectus (2) has been racing consistently and gets his chance to break through for the Waller & Dittman team. He comes back from 1800 metres last start to 1600 metres this weekend – I really think that is more his go.

Boreas (9) is trained by Barry Lockwood. He led last start at a midweek race at Eagle Farm. I am not too sure whether that was the intended tactics, or something went wrong with the gear. This weekend they have put on a tongue tie and I think you will see a much better performance. I hope that he settles back in the field and lifts strong late to get the chocolates at around $20.

Fort Wayne (3) is trained by Stuart Kendrick and Matthew McGillivray stays aboard after they won last start on the Sunshine Coast. He will appreciate the mile here.

Heathcote Racing has Scottish Mist (6) in the race. She stormed home late last start here at a midweek race over 1400 metres. The mile should not be a drama and she is looking for four consecutive wins – Ben Thompson aboard.

Selections:

2 – Prospectus
9 – Boreas
6 – Scottish Mist
3 – Fort Wayne

Race 5

Three-year-old runners face the starter here over 1000 metres.

I am forgiving the run of the topweight Mishani Miss (1) last start at the Gold Coast. She raced over 1200 metres – probably not her go and got stuck in the worst section of the track on the day. Look for apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson to let the other speedsters go and cross and take up the running and then unleash her late. Hopefully, she will atone for that defeat on the Gold Coast – I expect that Corey McConnell will be strapping her again this weekend.

The David Vandyke and Ryan Maloney pair combine with Superare (2) in this race. He was first up last start and looked like he needed the run – look for him to strip fitter here this weekend and pose a serious threat to the top weight.

Better Than Best (5) won easy last start on the Gold Coast. Ronnie Stewart rode her a treat down there and keeps the ride here this weekend. They jumped out of trees to get on her last start. They got the cash and left the bookies battered and bruised.

Broken Arrow (7) resumes here and is part owned by Michael Maxworthy from Sky Racing. This gelding could sprint well fresh and may cause a serious upset this weekend – “Maxxy” will be cheering loud if he wins!

Selections:

1 – Mishani Miss
2 – Superare
5 – Better Than Best
7 – Broken Arrow

Race 6

The first leg of the Quaddie this weekend over 1000 metres and it is a small field.

There are at least five runners here that will by vying for the lead – I am certain they will be going fast!

With the speed on look for the Gollan Racing runner Pizonie (7) to trail the speed and then make his run at the leaders late. Stable apprentice Georgina Cartwright will claim her 2.5 kilograms and, wow,he gets in well at the weight despite going up to Open grade company.

Usmanov (2) from Edmonds Racing was solid first up on the Gold Coast when beaten by Zoustyle. He will strip better for that effort, but he has a poor record second up.

Invincible Al (6) is another Gollan Racing runner who has been backed early from $41 into $21 and he does have a wonderful record second up and has won at the track – maybe a rough result here if he performs as he has done in the past.

Emerald Kingdom (4) goes well fresh as well. Keep him safe on a track where he has a three win from four start record.

Selections:

7 – Pizonie
2 – Usmanov
6 – Invincible Al
4 – Emerald Kingdom

Race 7

A No Metro Win race here – looks like a tough assignment.

Not a race I can get excited about – bet carefully.

Chris Munce Racing and stable apprentice Justin Huxtable look like they have a live chance here with Lady Brahmos (11). She comes off a solid win at the Sunshine Coast – maybe could go on with it here.

Syncline (12) is a Kris Lees Racing runner making his debut in Queensland. The barrier trial on his home track at Newcastle was impressive – the same effort here could see him beating this lot.

Royal Hale (5) from Gollan Racing probably has the best form for the race – just want to see him win a race before I tip him on top. This is a weak race on a Saturday so it could be a chance for him to get back in the winner’s stalls.

Selections:

11 – Lady Brahmos
12 – Syncline
5 – Royal Hale
3 – Starvirgo

Race 8

A Quality over 1400 metres – only a reasonably small field of ten again here.

Desert Lord resumed five weeks ago and slayed the opposition. Since then he has had an easy time in a barrier trial on the Sunshine Coast – again the David Vandyke/Ryan Maloney pair combine to attempt to find another

Phantom Falcon (9), from the Kacy Fogden stables, has won his past two starts when leading. He has had a six-week break since his last effort. He races well fresh and Tegan Harrison takes over in the saddle this weekend. She gels with front runners and I think that she will rate this ex-Hong Kong gelding well this weekend. If he gets away with some cheap sectionals in front, he will be exceedingly difficult to overhaul late - $11 on offer as well.

The Harrovian (4) hales from far north QLD and is trained by Stephen Massingham and Brad Stewart is aboard. He has won his past seven starts and comes to Brisbane to see if he can make it eight in a row. Not sure how to line the form from up north in this race and on this track – but he must be respected.

Impasse (8), from Matthew Dunn Racing, drops in weight here this weekend and loves this circuit. He goes well second up as well – he is a definite contender.

Selections:

2 – Desert Lord
9 – Phantom Falcon
8 – Impasse
4 – The Harrovian

Race 9

The last race of the day over 1800 metres – another tough assignment.

Kedah (8) looks like the distance will be no drama here. Maybe she can post a win.

Gollan Racing has Seeingisbelieving (2) backing up quickly after a midweek win last Wednesday. He must have done well and there has been some money for him since the markets opened.

Momentum to Win (6) is another Guy Racing runner who won here two starts ago when the stable jumped in and took the big odds on offer and were happy when he saluted – can he return to that form and cause another upset win here. Ben Thompson to ride and $21 on offer!

Flying Machine (7) trained by Selina Leef will appreciate getting back to Eagle Farm and the distance as well – this runner is $14 in the markets.

I think you have more chance in picking the winning Lotto numbers in Saturday’s nights Gold Lotto than getting the trifecta here – good luck if you want to take on the bookies here!

Selections:

8 – Kedah
2 – Seeingisbelieving
6– Momentum to Win
7 – Flying Machine
Rough chance – (5) Canapes

ANTHONY COLLINS destroyed WINNO last weekend on his home track – well done mate. This weekend it is back to my QLD/BRONCO (wooden spooner) mate JOSH FLEMING v WINNOtipping competition. Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
