SCST OCT 11 - LE JEDUMA MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 11, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 6m.
Maiden Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-26.21.
1 Le Jeduma; 2 Sheisamadoozy; 3 Plain Mary.

The Bryan Guy trained Le Jeduma made his debut as a six-year-old three weeks ago and he caught the eye there when finishing less than a length off the winner.

The natural improvement gleaned from that run, coupled with a step up in distance was all that was required to turn the gelding into a winner as Le Jeduma came home under a well judged ride from Stathi Katsidis to score in comfortable fashion.

Katsidis took Le Jeduma back from his wide draw, but he still couldn’t get in and Le Jeduma was forced to race deep throughout. That made little difference to the result though, because once Le Jeduma was produced from off the speed out wide in the straight, he let down really well to sweep up to the lead. He went on to win with something in hand.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bryan Guy: “It was 1400m this time (as opposed to 1200m on debut). The further he goes the better he’ll go.

“He’s had a lot of problems ... chips out of his joints. He’s had sesamoid troubles. He’s had a lot of problems. That’s why he is a six-year-old having only his second start in a race. He cost a lot of money as a yearling. He is very, very well bred. Going back nearly four or five years I think he was about a $300000 yearling or something.

“No, the draw wasn’t a worry on the big track. I just said to Stathi (Katsidis) to travel him back. He knows how to rate a horse perfectly. It all went well.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Jockey D. Craven was fined $100 for contravening AR85A in that he failed to fulfil his engagement on Mr Magorium.

Prior to declaring correct weight, stewards considered an objection from C. Reith, rider of Za Lovett, in that he was of the opinion he was denied a fair start. After considering his submissions and reviewing the video footage of the start, and noting the requirements of the provisions of AR134, stewards deemed that any ground lost by Za Lovett was as a result of its own accord and therefore Za Lovett was declared a runner and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placings.

Za Lovett (C. Reith) began awkwardly, resulting in the horse losing valuable ground. Dream Taker (C. Kearney) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with Plain Mary (J. Letherby). Dream Taker (C. Kearney) over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 600m, Bag The Profit (M. Hellyer) shifted out and away from the heels of the tiring Dream Taker (C. Kearney) and in doing so inconvenienced Not Declared.

Near the 200m, Black Katana (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room in attempting to take a run where debatable room existed between Tinkler’s Lane (S. Kennedy), which had a tendency to shift out, and Shadow Within (J. Taylor), which shifted in slightly.

Sheismadoozy (P. Hammersley) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight. Bag The Profit (M. Hellyer) was held up for clear running over the final 100m. Mr Margorium (I. Coombes) and Le Judema (S. Katsidis) raced wide for the majority of the event.
