TREBLES FOR TAYLOR, KATSIDIS. DOUBLE FOR BYRNE.

By Graham Potter | Thursday, October 15, 2009

Jockey Jason Taylor was in fine form at Doomben where he landed a treble and two second placings from five rides to edge out Stathi Katisidis in the jockeys challenge.

Katsidis also went home with three winners, including a race to race double, on the day when only three riders got on the scoreboard. Jim Byrne was the other successful jockey. Byrne visited the winners’ enclosure on two occasions.

Taylor kicked off the meeting with a strong win on the Jamie Nielson trained Meddler for Patinack Farm. Meddler hit the line hard to relegate the well fancied Favelizabeth into second spot.

The rider had to work a lot harder when getting the Robert Bradshaw trained Life’s Short home by a short-half head over the favourite Darnados in a spirited battle in the fourth race and he then went on to complete the treble when he partnered the Rex Lipp trained Zsazsa to her second successive win in the final race on the card.

Taylor provided super value for his followers as shown by the starting price of his winners. Meddler started at $7.00, Life’s Short went off at $16.00 and Zsazsa was a $13.00 chance.

Stathi Katsidis’s race to race double came aboard two race favourites. The Liam Birchley trained first-timer Nesting started at $1.50 while Katsidis’ second winner, Red Raiders (for trainer Tony Sears) started at $2.20. Both of these runners won in comfortable fashion. They were the only two favourites to win on the card.

Jim Byrne was successful on Notevenow, a $9.00 chance for trainer Bryan Guy, and the Helen Page trained Tricaat who started at $7.50.
