RYAN WIGGINS - AN HONOURABLE MAN PAYS HIS DUES

By Graham Potter | Monday, December 21, 2020

When you take a bet and lose, the honourable thing to do is to pay up, in whatever form that takes … and jockey Ryan Wiggins is an honourable man.

An avid Blues supporter, Wiggins took on his Queensland mate Will Allam as to who would win this year’s State Of Origin.

It wasn’t the first time they had placed this 'friendly' bet.

“I had a losing bet with Will this time,” confirmed Wiggins.

“Last year I won the bet and I made him wear a Blues jersey at the races all day at Eagle Farm. He did that and he said he got punished with some people were giving it to him all day.

“This year he wanted to do it again and I said, righto, you can have a bet. We (the Blues) will win anyway … whatever.”

“Will said, if you lose, you have to ride the pony down the straight with a maroon jersey and a wig.

“I said, you can do whatever you want mate. We’re going to win anyway.

“Then we didn’t!

“The Brisbane Racing Club and the Stewards were really good about it.

“it was something different. The crowd seemed to enjoy it … and Will obviously loved it.

“I also enjoyed it … it was a bit of fun … but I will obviously be hoping for a different outcome next year,” concluded Wiggins.
