WINNO'S KILCOY KASH - KILCOY, 31 DECEMBER, 2020

By Darren Winningham | Wednesday, December 30, 2020

KILCOY RACES – THURSDAY 31 DECEMBER 2020

This weekend we up the highway (well crash and traffic pending) to Kilcoy Races.

The new amenities will get tested with a bumper crowd anticipated!

This weekend with the track rated “GOOD”. The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Local horses seem to always thrive on these days – PLUS watch out for the local plunges that do occur from time to time on locally trained horses.

Since it is New Year’s Eve 2020 – I am going just to post selections – maybe some comments if I like a roughie or a particular horse.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Not a race I will be betting in.

Some average maidens going around here – BUT someone has to win!

Selections:

4 – Fleur De Jour
5 – From The Gong
2 – Orders
3 – Found The Mark

Race 2

An open race over 1500 metres.

John Manzelmann has 6 of the 8 runners nominated.

Jason Edwards and Justin Stanley had some good luck at the last meeting held here – maybe it will continue with the topweight – Amore Primus (1)

Selections:

1 – Amore Primus
4 – Imali
5 – Champagne Spirit
8 – Struman

Race 3

Small field over 1500 metres.

Hallside Fandango (1) from the Jason Edwards yards won in the last bound two starts ago here. Apprentice Emma MacPherson takes a handy 3 kilograms off and she is drawn here well enough to sit behind the leaders.

I think the Kris Lees trained Predictable Miss (2) may jump and lead and be hard to run down with Andrew Mallyon in the saddle.

Gratsie (5) won last start at a big price at Ipswich – Justin Stanley remains aboard.

Selections:

2 – Predictable Miss
5 – Gratsie
1 – Hallside Fandango
6 – Grand Casadora

Race 4

A large filed with many runners with gear changes – another lottery!

Barriers may be of importance here over the 1200 metres.

I like the latest two efforts of Tallahassee Lassie – will be ridden by apprentice Zac Lloyd here and his 3 kilograms will be a bonus. Trainer Andrew Williamson has put the blinkers on – this will assist this five-year-old mare.

Selections:

11 – Tallahassee Lassie
4 - Prickly Tick
7 - Goldkind
5 – Salex Spirit

Race 5

These races just keep getting harder!

First leg of the Quaddie as well.

Tycoon Flyer (8) is a dual acceptor – also in race 3 – likely to run here.

Narrowly beaten in the final stride last start here by Hallside Fandango (Race 3 – 1).

Nathan Thomas will ride him again - looks well placed.

Selections:

8 – Tycoon Flyer
2 – Dulcie Tie
3 – Spring Nymph
10 – Kiss N Win

Race 6

A 1900 metre race.

Resonare (2) won here three starts ago and then was narrowly beaten here in the next start – looks the one to beat with Kenji Yoshida to ride for trainer John Hearne.

Modern Family (4) is a dual acceptor (scratched from race 5) and is trained by Kym Afford – Hannah Richardson to ride him.

Selections:

2 – Resonare
4 – Modern Family
1 – Haradify
3 – Miss Diss

Race 7

Halcyon Days (6) hung last start at Ballina on a soft track. Back to a firm surface and the tongue tie goes on – look for an improvement.

Heart Vandelay (4) won his first race for trainer Sharryn Livingstone here two starts again. Back at the track where she trained her first winner and with Justin Stanley again aboard – can lightning strikes twice?

Selections:

6 – Halcyon Days
4 – Heart Vandelay
7 – Rogue Drummer
5 – Der Sieger

Race 8

The last race for 2020!

What a year of drama and torment.

Another large field here to face the starter – anything may happen.

De Vega Punch (7) was heavily supported two starts ago and won well despite working herself up before the race. Wendy Bannerot and Rikki Lee Palmer combine again here looking to win at Kilcoy.

Looking to spoil the party is Mark Currie and Bobby El- Issa with Awesome Power (11) who won last start at Esk.

I suppose it comes down to the Girls versus the Boys in the last!

Selections:

7 – De Vega Punch
11 – Awesome Power
8 – More Than Fortune
13 – Devillain
