BOOMNOVA GETS UP IN THE VERY LAST STRIDE

By Graham Potter | Saturday, January 9, 2021

The Chris Munce trained Boomnova made it three-in-a-row when she landed the opening race at the card at the Gold Coast, scoring a last stride victory over the very game Mishani Miss, who had attempted to land an end to end win under the steadying burden of 60kg. Boomnova carried 54kg.

The commitment of Mishani Miss, who was under immense pressure for most of the home straight, was such that she saw off a number of challenges from the likes of Durelo and Good Chat in the run home, but came up as stride short as Boomnova late flourish took the honours.

“That wasn’t the plan (coming from midfield) and Bobby (El-Issa) was going to cop the biggest bomb he has ever had in his life, so he is lucky he won,” laughed trainer Chris Munce.

“Look, he rode her like the best filly in the race. He probably gave her a hard job, but she is a very good galloper … a very good galloper … and for her to win like that today shows how good she is.

“As long as she backs up well and we get into the QTIS race she will go around next Saturday.

“Justin (Huxtable – Munce’s stable apprentice) has done a lot of work with her and he has always said to me she is probably the best filly he has ridden in my life.

“He was a bit disappointed he couldn’t ride her at 54kg, but he said she is very adaptable.

“In her first race she ran third to Rothfire and Kisukano. She was back off them and still came on well.

“Like I said, she is an adaptable filly and a very good galloper,” concluded Munce.
