TAILLEUR IMPROVES HER RECORD TO SIX WINS FROM EIGHT STARTS. GETS THE JOB DONE IN TRISCAY STAKES

By Graham Potter | Saturday, February 13, 2021

The James Cummings trained Tailleur improved his career record to six wins and two second places from eight starts with a hard-earned win in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes at Randwick.

Tailleur dictated events from the front throughout … but it was no easy romp for the $1.35 favourite in the final straight.

Several rivals were close enough to challenge halfway up the straight if there was to be any dent in Tailleur’s armour on the day, but the four-year-old mare dug in deep in a manner which underlined both her ability and her competitive character.

It might not have been the win with an extravagant flourish that some of the followers of the short-priced favourite might have anticipated but, however you interpret the run, this was a very promising horse getting the job done once again.

“We’ve been very patient at giving her her first crack at a Black Type race,” said Cummings. “It paid off today and it showed how hard they are to win.

“Everything fell into place with horses being scratched and getting a somewhat desirable wet track for her.

“She was nice and fit and fresh coming into this and she’s got the Black Type win on the board now, so we have got a little bit less pressure on our backs moving forward.

“She could be kept fresh for a really good race like The Galaxy … or we could plot our path through the mares races in the next few weeks.

“There is something to be said for her down in the weights in a Galaxy … and it would be pretty interesting if we did get a wet track there.”
