SCORCHED EARTH TOO HOT TO HANDLE IN MAGIC MILLIONS TWO-YEAR-OLD CLASSIC AT MURRAY BRIDGE

By Graham Potter | Saturday, February 27, 2021

The John Maloney trained Scorched Earth took no prisoners in the Magic Millions (SA) Two-Year-Old Classic at Murray Bridge.

Pushed into an early lead by Jessica Eton, the daughter of Nicconi took the field along at a comfortable gallop to the turn.

Eton then still bided her time momentarily but, once she scorched Earth to quicken, it quickly became a case of the further they went the further Scorched Earth was going to win by.

In the end that winning margin was 5.20 lengths back to the second placed Lady Of Honour, the result justifying Scorched Earth’s $3.10 favouritism.

Scorched Earth’s market rival Metzarro ($3.30) was never a factor and finished unplaced 9.60 lengths behind the runaway winner.

This was Scorched Earth’s first career victory and it came in the filly’s third start.

She had put the writing on the wall for this win in her previous start where she finished second behind Arcaded in the Group 2, Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies.
