RUN FOR NARA EARNS BLACK TYPE SUCCESS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, May 16, 2009

Run For Nara put a Black Type success behind her name when she took out the two-year-old feature, the Listed Gibson Carmichael Stakes at Flemington.

The Jason Coyle trained runner was forced to track three deep for most of the trip, but Steven King had the filly relaxed out there. The duo were just biding their time, waiting to produce their finishing effort. Run For Nara did take a while to warm up in the straight, but she gradually gained winning momentum and sustained a determined effort to the line to keep Extra Zero and Stoneblack back in the minor placings.

The chestnut daughter of More Than Ready was a maiden going into the race, but the benefit of her previous experience as well as a subtle step up in distance helped her to carry the day.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Steven King: “She is a real saying type of filly. I had to sort of get going early because they had a pretty soft run in the first half. I knew she was fit. I knew the mile would suit her and I was quite confident that when she got to the front, she would keep going.”
