ABRACADAZZLE SCORES A DESERVED, OVERDUE WIN

By Graham Potter | Sunday, March 21, 2021

The Tony Gollan trained Abracadazzle scored an overdue win in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1600m at Eagle Farm, coming off three consecutive placings.

The three-year-old daughter of Sizzling had to earn it though … firstly, having to withstand the attempt by her market rival to keep her in a pocket halfway up the straight (her jockey Michael Rodd was having none of that) and then she had chase with meaning to peg back the stubborn Kasear who was trying to make every post a winning one in the home straight.

That task always looked to be well within Abracadazzle’s capability … and so it proved to be … but Kasear did test Abracadazzle’s strength and commitment and the winner did well to come through with flying colours.

“It’s great to see this little filly win,” said stable spokesman Craig Cavanough, “and to get a winner for these owners. It’s great to see them get a winner in a Metro meeting.

“She’s been consistent this prep. She was a tad unlucky last start.

“it was a great ride by Michael. He gave it a peach."

“She was a bit fresh early,” said Michael Rodd. “I was surprised that she got up on the bridle coming back to the mile, but then she relaxed beautifully mid-race.

“It just panned a lovely for her. I could just come to one off coming off the turn and then the horse I followed to be three deep, it actually hung in which presented me with a run. If he didn’t hang in, I probably didn’t get through.

“I was lucky that I had the horse to take me through it. She picked up really well.”
