JAMIE KAH DOMINATES AGAIN ... THIS TIME AT BENDIGO

By Matt Moore | Sunday, March 28, 2021

It was another day out for Jamie Kah, one of Melbourne’s leading jockeys, at Bendigo on Saturday.

Kah went into the meeting aboard both favourites in the two Listed Features, the Bendigo Guineas and the Golden Mile, and she duly won both races which completed a treble for her after she had earlier ridden Fanciful Toff to victory in the fourth race on the card.

In what proved to be a predominant leaders track, Kah broke very cleanly aboard her first winner, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace runner Fanciful Toff. Having to do a lap and two furlongs of the tight Bendigo circuit, Kah positioned the six-year-old gelding in a handy fourth spot, three off the leaders as they went past the winning post for the first time.

At the 600m mark, Kah made the moved up to join the three runners racing right in behind the leader Starcaster. Kah then got the run she needed at the top of the straight and with 400m left to run Fanciful Toff accelerated up to join Starcaster before taking the lead at the 250m.

She powered away and had enough in hand to ease down approaching the line.
Co trainer David Eustace said Fanciful Toff was “a credit to keeping older horses going. It’s the best he’s looked, it’s the soundest he’s been the whole way through” and hinted the Warrnambool Cup could be on the radar.

Kah described him as “a jockey’s dream” adding that he “settles, relaxes” and goes when you push the button.

The first of the Listed Races was the Bendigo Guineas where Kah sat aboard the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr runner in Annavisto.

Kah was quick to get the filly to lead and that’s where she stayed, winning by two lengths from Mozzie Monster who produced a massive run from the back of the field.

Michael Kent Jnr said there was no set plan in the race and thought it suited her being wide. The key was to get Annavisto relaxed.

Kah added Annavisto is a quality horse who has “been doing it upside down,” but thought the gear change of the crossover helped. She also added she was aware Annavisto would be keen early and “the idea was to go with her and, once she got the front, she was lovely.”

Will Clarken sent over Ironclad off three straight wins at the home base at Morphettville and the market didn’t miss.

Kah settled the odds-on favourite fifth on the fence for majority of the run and with no one on her outside on the approach to the turn, Kah pulled out to be five wide at the top of the straight.

Ironclad turned the after burners on in the final sector to make it four straight wins by a length-and-three-quarters, keeping the Australian undefeated record intact.

Kah said post-race that, “He’s got a good professional attitude about him … a lovely horse.”
