THREE-YEAR-OLDS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT ROSEHILL

By Matt Moore | Friday, April 2, 2021

TANCRED STAKES DAY PREVIEW

After a phenomenal Golden Slipper Day last Saturday, the Group 1 action remains at Rosehill Gardens for the third consecutive Saturday. Tomorrow we have two Group 1 features headlining a nine race program … the Vinery Stud Stakes for the 3YO fillies and the Tancred Stakes for the 3YO’s at Weight For Age Conditions. We also have the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude for the 3YO’s in preparation for the Doncaster Mile in two weeks at Royal Randwick.

Last weekend the track pulled up spectacularly after the rain the weekend before. We were on a Soft 7 then upgraded to a 6 for the last race. The track for this meeting will be even better. A Good 4 with the rail moving out to the 6m position the entire circuit.

RACE 1: THE GROUP 3 SCHWEPPERVESENCE OVER 1400m

The 2YO’s get us underway in the first race.

Converge from Gate 5 and Conrad for Gate 12 will roll forward to set the speed. Maurice’s Medad from the 3 and Tristate from the 13 are listed as emergencies. Highly unlikely they’ll start but if something happens, they do then they can roll forward also.

Readily Availabull, Saif and Forgot You come through the Group 2 VRC Sires at Flemington last start over this distance. Forgot You is listed an emergency here. Saif finished 2nd with Readily Avialabull 5th. Both were good runs.

Converge and With Your Blessing both ran in the Group 3 Pago Pago last start. That run was over the 1200m. Converge ran 6th with the With Your Blessing 4th.

Conrad won his maiden at Wyong last start winning impressively by just over 3.5L.

Testimonial and Flying Witness come through the Group 2 Riesling Stakes finishing 4th and 6th respectively.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 4 With Your Blessing. His run in that Pago Pago was eye catching powering through the line well. He also recorded some quick sectionals in that run. Looks to get a nice map from Gate 9. G Boss on board for John Thompson.

RACE 2: GROUP 3 NEVILLE SELWOOD STAKES OVER 2000m

Speed here to be set by Entente from Gate 3. Looks Like Elvis from 2, Master Of Wine from 4 and Joigny from 5 should settle in behind him.

Master Of Wine is on the quick backup after his 6th place in the Ranvet last week. His CV has his last handful of runs at Group 1 level. He’s 3rd up here and has won once and placed 2nd twice from 5 occasions when 3rd up.

Entente was a last start winner in the Albury Cup beating a handy field by over 2L on that occasion.
Shared Ambition ran in the Group 1 Australian Cup last start. He finished 11th on that occasion but his two runs prior this prep have been good … a 2nd to Paradee in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes and a win over Mount Popa in the Gardenia.

Mr Satchmo and Looks Like Elvis come through the Group 2 Ajax.

Aliferious ran 2nd to Polly Grey in the Group 3 Epona Stakes last week. Girl Tuesday was also in that race.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 1 Master Of Wine. You can’t go past that Group 1 company he’s been racing in. A drop to a Group 3 here, 55.5kg tomorrow from Gate 4 and a great map tick a lot of boxes. His last 2 races have been won by Verry Elleegant. No 3 Shared Ambition is the big danger.

RACE 3: GROUP 2 SIGNAGE TULLOCH STAKES OVER 2000M

The speed will come over from Yaletown in Gate 10, but expect The Frontman from the pole and Fields Of Honour from Gate 6 to apply plenty of pressure.

Cherry Tortoni and Young Werther come through their last start in the Group 2 Alister Clark at The Valley. A 4th and 2nd respectively on a leader’s track.

The Frontman comes from across the ditch having placed in the Group 1 NZ Derby his last start.
Yaletown have been racing well in his 3 starts so far. He won his debut race at Canberra then came back fresh to run 2nd at Canberra in a BM65. Gai and Adrian decided to put him in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes where he ran 4th. That race was won by Hungry Heart. His last prep finished in a Group 1 back in October. He’s up to these here.

Favreau is another runner in terrific form having won his last 2 starts. A Class 1 at Canberra then his last start at Kembla Grange.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 6 Favreau. I’m going with the reasons outlined above plus his dry track form is better than anyone else. If we were on a Soft 5 I’d be with that Alister Clark form reference (most likely Cherry Tortoni). James McDonald aboard Favreau is a massive plus.

RACE 4: GROUP 2 EMANCIPATION STAKES OVER 1500m

Speed. Greysful Glamour to lead with Sweet Deal and Irithea in behind. Nimalee to sit in behind the 2nd pair from the pole.

Krone is flying this prep with three wins in her last 3 runs. The first of those was on Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast. Tony Gollan and The Rolling Dice team then took her to Sydney for this carnival. Wins in the Group 2 Guy Walter and her last start in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic make her the favourite.

Several other runners come through that Coolmore Classic race in Sweet Deal, Rich Hips, All Saints Eve and Icebath.

Greysful Glamour’s last 2 runs this prep have been disappointing in the All Star Mile and The Tressady, but she finds a dry track here which suits and pits up against her own sex.

Nimalee won the BM100 James Ruse last start to beat home Yao Dash. Connections have freshened her with a recent run at the trials where she performed well.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 1 Krone. Winning form is good form. She sticks the 1500m here and meets that similar field.

RACE 5: GROUP 3 STAR KINGDOM STAKES OVER 1200M

Plenty of speed and pressure here. Prime Candidate from Gate 4 to set the tempo and will have Peltzer darting out from Gate 8 to join. Wisdom Of Water from 7 and California Zimbol from the 5 to sit in behind.

Coruscate resumes here with a good 1st up record.

Deprive comes through the Liverpool City Stakes last start which was taken out by Think It Over. Clearly a good form reference.

Easy Eddie, California Zimbol and Prime Candidate come through the Group 3 Maurice McCarten. California Zimbol won that race with Easy Eddie running 2nd. The latter is on the quick back up after running in the Group 1 Galaxy last week.

Signage Fox also resumes here. His trial form has been outstanding, and the firm track here will be a big bonus. He’s won 5 from 15 at the distance but it should be noted he has never won at Rosehill from 3 attempts.

Wisdom Of Water resumes here winning 2 from 4 when 1st up. His form lines jump off the page running in races won by September Run, Doubtland and Rothfire. He’s coming through some impressive trial form.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 6 California Zimbol. Her map suggests she’ll get the perfect run just tucking up behind the leaders. She often does her best work when 2nd up as is the case here. 3 wins from 4 when 2nd up.

RACE 6. GROUP 1 VINERY STUD STAKES OVER 2000m

A number of these runners are set for the Australian Oaks in 2 weeks.

Harmony Rose has drawn Gate 1 and she’ll lead them up.

Personal and Starelle come through the Group 2 Kewney Stakes. Starelle took that race out with Personal running 3rd. Personal’s form has been great prior having won the Group 1 VRC Oaks last run last prep and finishing 2nd in the 1000 Guineas and Wakeful Stakes prior to that Oaks run. Then resumed finishing 2nd in the Vanity.

Harmony Rose began this prep winning a BM72 on the Kenso track then backed it up 2 weeks later running 3rd in the Randwick Guineas.

Hungry Heart comes in a last start winner in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes with Impecunious finishing 3rd.

Miravalle and Elizabeel ran 1-2 in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic last start with the latter finishing 3rd in her run prior - The Group 1 Surround Stakes.

Force Of Will comes across the ditch on the back of 4 wins. The first of those 2 were at the 1400 with the last 2 at the mile. A step up to the 2000m looks good.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 2 Harmony Rose. She’s won 3 of her 5 career starts with placings in the other 2. Her form in the 2 runs this prep look classy.

RACE 7. GROUP 1 TANCRED STAKES OVER THE 2400M AT WFA

A great field here for the feature race of the day. Very tough to nail the winner.

Speed will come from Spirit Ridge with Angel Of Truth. Throw a blanket over the rest of the field as they settle. One thing we do know is She’s Ideel will drop back.

Sir Dragonet, Angel Of Truth and Miami Bound come from the Ranvet last week. Angel Of Truth ran 3rd and it was a great ride by McEvoy who sticks here. I feel they all need the sting out of the ground here.

Mirage Dancer, The Chosen One, Spirit Ridge, Shraaoh and Toffee Tongue come through the Sky High. Toffee Tongue was your winner narrowly beating Spirit Ridge and Mirage Dancer 3rd.

Melody Belle comes back over from NZ having won 3 of her last 5 runs with 2 of those at Weight-For-Age. She’s going for 15 Group 1 wins here to join the likes of Black Caviar and Winx with Group 1 records like that. James McDonald sits aboard her which appeals.

She’s Ideel ran 3rd in the Epona Stakes last week with placings in the Aspiration and the Millie Fox her 2 runs prior. It was a horror watch last week as she was trapped when she wanted to go for home. But when she found she powered home through the line.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 2 Mirage Dancer. I was impressed with the way he hit the line in that Sky High. Form lines coming in have been good and boasts a good 3rd up record.

RACE 8. GROUP 3 DONCASTER PRELUDE OVER 1500M

Good speed here with several runners to roll forward. Yao Dash and Buffalo River from Gates 2 and 10 respectively to roll forward. Archedumus from 15 can sit outside that leading pair with Purple Sector (6), Just Thinkin’ (12) and Dawn Passage (14) also going forward to sit in behind.

The obvious form line is the Group 2 Ajax Stakes where Mister Sea Wolf, Rock, Buffalo River and Criaderas come from. Rock was the best performer out of that 4 and really got going in the final 200m to finish 3rd.

Purple Sector and Bottega finished 5th and 2nd respectively in their last outing which was the Newcastle Newmarket at Group 3 level. Bottega was pipped up on the post by Gem Song in that race.

Yao Dash has been terrific his last 5 starts recording 2 wins and 2 placings. His last run was in a BM88 at this track where he led into the straight and was met by Starspangled Rodeo. With Nash Rawiller aboard, the pair wrestled back the lead to score by half a length. Craig Williams to replace Rawiller here who is suspended.

Subedar is another runner in form coming in off the back of 2 wins his last 2 starts. He is a Group 2 place getter from his last prep.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 4 Rock. I’m going with the Ajax form. Rock gave the other 3 runners he meets here a start and powered over the remainder of the field to finish 3rd. He was impressive in the way he attacked the line. He draws nicely here.

RACE 9 BM88 CLEANAWY HANDICAP OVER 1400M

Speed here will come from Academy and Great News.

Thy Kingdom Come and Academy ran in the Listed National Sprint over the 1400m last start at Canberra. Thy Kingdom Come finished 2nd with Academy 4th.

Starspangled Rodeo came 2nd in the Muswellbrook Cup last start. He won 2 of his 3 runs prior in BM78 and BM88 grades with the run in between in those runs being a 2nd in a BM88.

Nudge along with Lina’s Hero had a run in a BM88 Hcp at this track 3 weeks ago with pair running 4th and 3rd respectively. Lina’s Hero is currently listed as an emergency.

Segalas returned with a 2nd behind Subedar at Kembla Grange 3 weeks ago. Her 2nd up form is good.

Great News comes into this race with an impressive win in the Provincial Championships Qualifier to score by two and quarter lengths. That was at Gosford.

ON TOP SELECTION – No 12 Great News. The form speaks volumes having only missed the cash once from 9 starts with 5 career wins. Needs to overcome a wide gate but if she starts well and sits on speed, I think she’ll record another win.
