SCST OCT 25 - BRADBURY’S WORLD SCORES COME FROM BEHIND WIN

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Sunshine Coast, October 25, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 8m.
Maiden Handicap - 1000m. Time: 58.45.
1 Bradbury's World; 2 Pure Slip; 3 He's A Hoot.

The Tina Cotsiopoulos trained Bradbury’s World scored a well-judged come-from behind win under a confident ride from jockey Andrew Spinks to claim her first career win in her sixth start.

Spinks took Bradbury’s World back from her wide draw and she was second last, four wide and faced with plenty of work to do when turning into the home straight. The mare was unfazed by the task and set about her business with meaning.

Spinks angled Bradbury’s World out marginally for a run and she quickly built momentum to race into contention. She sustained her effort all the way to the line to claim the lead when it mattered most to win by 0,20 lengths from the $51 outsider Pure Slip who had threatened to cause a boil-over with a bold effort down the inside running rail.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Tina Cotsiopoulos: “The run at Ipswich helped set this up. We decided to try her from behind. Twice we’ve done that now and she’s finished well. I think it suits her better and from the draw today we didn’t really have any option. It was good for her.”

Jockey Andrew Spinks: “In the run before this we brought her to Ipswich over 800m. Like she got back at Ipswich because she couldn’t keep up with them and she got home good. So, we decided to ride her quiet this time and just let her get home.

“It’s a big track and a long straight. She’s been working well and we trained her to do it that way ... just to have one crack at them down the straight. She’s been working well through the week and I was pretty confident that she could pick them up.

“She’s got to go into a Class 1 now so we’ll find out more. But at least we’ve worked out the best pattern of racing for her. Like I say, she’s going good and I think she’ll run 1200m.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Bradbury’s World): 8.00 out to 9.00.
Favourite (Here Comes Tony): 2.30 steady. Finished eleventh.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Stewards inquired into the reason for Piccolotto being a late scratching at 10.20 am. After taking evidence from trainer Mr P. Pengelly, stewards adjourned the matter to a date to be fixed.

Hey Jamie (C. Priest) began awkwardly. Bradbury's World (A. Spinks), which was slow to begin, was further inconvenienced by He's A Hoot (D. Griffin), which jumped outwards at the start, making contact with Bradbury's World. Shortly after the start, He's A Hoot shifted in, brushing Western Run (S. Katsidis), which in turn shifted in, making contact with My Tinkerbel (M. Hellyer), which became unbalanced.

My Tinkerbel was tightened for room near the 700m when racing between Western Run and Here Comes Tony (K. Pope), which commenced to race ungenerously and shifted out. Here Comes Tony continued to race ungenerously for some distance. A post-race veterinary examination of Here Comes Tony failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Near the 400m, My Tinkerbel shifted out to improve, making contact with Western Run. Hey Jamie had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Bradbury's World (A. Spinks), which shifted out to improve near the 250m.

Abode (K. Sawyers), Western Run (S. Katsidis) and Hey Jamie (C. Priest) raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of Here Comes Tony failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
