WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, JUNE 20, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Saturday, June 19, 2021

KILCOY RACES – SUNDAY JUNE 20, 2021

All roads lead to Kilcoy this weekend for the KEITH BEAVIS KILCOY MEMORIAL CUP. A massive 9 race program supported by pacing on turf and, of course, the mini trotters for the children and families!

This weekend the track is rated “SOFT” and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. This track does sometimes tend to favour horses who have won here – and horses that race on the speed.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

We start the day with a 1200 metre race for the maidens.

First up Bull Dimple Rum (6) ran a solid race at Ipswich – a repeat of that performance should see this Neil Hocking trained runner with Minonette Kennedy riding and claiming 1.5 kilograms right in the mix. Has drawn well in barrier 1 as well – jump out and ping – just second up here – sometimes they have the second up yips.

Daashur (2) is trained by Lisa MacPherson and will be ridden by the talented Zac Lloyd. A six-year-old maiden – probably says it all – but he has only had 11 career starts and has run a gallant second here on the track two starts ago – maybe that look at the track may hold him in good stead this weekend – barrier 11 is a drama for mine.

Bobby El-Issa has given a day up of fishing to ride Air Force Rocket (12) for Ben Robinson. Only a two-year-old runner – second up here this weekend and may well test these older runners.

Selections:

6 – Bull Dimple Rum
2 – Daasshur
12 – Air Force Rocket
7 – Corbin

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1200 – another maiden race! This is a large field – it’s a difficult assignment.

Miss Moscato (10) is drawn well with Madeleine Wishart riding for Shaun Dwyer (Jnr) – the tongue tie goes on for this start. Should lead here from barrier 4 and will be hard to run down. If she is left alone in front, I think she is a great chance here.

I Am Sumi (1) has the tongue tie coming off – trained at the Sunshine Coast by Alan Jones and will be ridden by Stephanie Lacy. This runner is third up after a three week break between her last run. She looks well placed here by the stable and Lacy does ride this Kilcoy track like a BOSS!

Rose By Design (5) is a Yvonne Day runner who will be ridden by Olivia Kendal who will claim 4 kilograms. I think the claim will assist and this is just her second career start. Last time out at Ipswich her run was good enough to suggest that she will be competitive here.

Looks like a trifecta for the female jockeys!

Selections:

10 – Miss Moscato
1 – I Am Sumi
5 – Rose By Design
16 – Why Not Me

Race 3

Only a small field over 800 metres here – they normally go fast here – jump and run and get the chocolates.

Hallsidehankypanky (1) has a win here and despite the huge weight looks the likely leader. Trained by Jason Edwards and it looks like a new apprentice is looking for his first win at Kilcoy. Zac Sprie claims 4 kilograms off this filly that makes her an exciting conveyance.

Copper Sunset (4) won two starts ago – shame he has drawn barrier 11. Kenji Yoshida rides him for Jason Gregory.

Kelly Schweida Racing has Lady Tulessa (6) resuming here. Mark Du Plessis will ride. This filly had a solid barrier trial win at Doomben two weeks ago – drawn barrier 1 and will be hard to toss.

The Darling (7) won last start at Gatton when resuming from a spell. Trained by Stuart Kendrick and will be ridden by Tiffani Brooker – another good chance.

It is a very tough field despite only 9 runners.

Selections:

6 – Lady Tulessa
7 – The Darling
1 – Hallsidehankypanky
4 – Copper Sunset
Rough chance – (10) Rubyexpress

Race 4

Class 1 over 800 metres.

Miss Rhapsody (3) is trained by Sears Racing in Toowoomba and will be ridden by Angela Jones who claims 2 kilograms. This filly has had only three career starts and her only win was here back in February last year. She won a recent barrier trial at Toowoomba – drawn well in barrier 1 – some positives here. The blinkers also go on here for this resumption to racing.

Trip The Light (5) is a Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted trained runner who resumes from a spell here. Baylee Nothdurft makes an appearance at Kilcoy to ride this filly for the stable. He won a barrier trial on her recently – looks primed to make her presence felt here.

Charlotte Rules (9) comes down from North QLD to have her first look at Kilcoy for Darryl Johnston – will be ridden by Anthony Allen. Always show speed in her races and will race well fresh – the tongue control comes off this weekend.

Raining Riches (11) is a good rough chance for Glenn Richardson – will be ridden by his partner in crime Hannah Richardson. She won well at Esk last time out in good time. Is on the quick 7 day back up – maybe she could go well here again.

Selections:

5 – Trip The Light
3 – Miss Rhapsody
9 – Charlotte Rules
11 – Raining Riches

Race 5

Tough race here over 1050 metres.

Vogue Rock (3) racing well recently – trained by Liam Birchley and will be ridden by Bobby El-Issa. Is fourth up here this weekend – probably needs to jump cleanly from the gates and sit in behind the speed to be a genuine threat. If she gets back like she did last start at the Sunshine Coast she may struggle.

The Bumblebee (8) won here three starts ago – has a tremendous record at the track with three wins and two placings from 9 starts – Nathan Thomas is aboard for trainer Stephanie Sixtus – nicely placed.

Greg Cornish trained Clickety Clicks (9) who is second up here this weekend - Jasmine Cornish to ride and her 3-kilogram claim makes this runner appealing to me.

Silver Bo (10) is a Chris Anderson runner – looks like they have brought her here to post a win for her owners. Kenji Yoshida will ride for the stable. She looked like she needed the run first up at the Gold Coast – will have stripped fitter for that effort and has won previously second up. Awkward barrier draw is the only hinderance – barrier 11.

Selections:

8 – Bumblebee
10 – Silver Bo
9 – Clickety Clicks
3 – Vogue Rock

Race 6

The first leg of the Quaddie over 1050 metres – sponsored by Con & Jenny Searle and ironically, they have a runner nominated in Zou Dee Zee (3), trained by Kevin Kemp, who may show up here fresh.

Trip The Light (5) is a Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted trained runner who resumes from a spell here with Baylee Nothdurft to ride (also nominated in Race 4 – should win either race).

Mr Stack (1) – lightly raced and has had his runs spread out – has raced forward in the past and from barrier 4 – maybe Bobby El-Issa will go forward and win the race.

Sound of Sleat (7) won her maiden here in May. Since then probably has not set the house on fire – trained by Barry Lockwood and Olivia Webb will ride – maybe a change of fortune here this weekend.

I would strongly advise to look at any market movers in this race come race day – it is a lottery!

Selections:

5 – Trip The Light
7 – Sound of Sleat
1 – Mr Stack
6 – Curry Connection

Race 7 KEITH BEAVID MEMORIAL KILCOY CUP

The feature race over 1500 metres and the first leg of the treble.

Gunnobe (3) from the Lindsay Hatch yards will be ridden by Baylee Nothdurft. There will be support for this runner as her form looks very good for this race. She is second up here after resuming at Doomben nearly three weeks ago. Her best efforts have been over the mile – probably the 1500 metres second up gets her in good here.

The stable mate is Octavian (4) to be ridden by Bobby El-Issa coming back from a recent nice effort at Rockhampton. No knock on this runner but there has been only 9 days between runs – he seems to have had them spaced out more in the past – maybe he has thrived since that run and the stable is confident.

Could be a quinella for the Hatch yards in the feature race!

Inching Closer (6) has a good strike rate with 8 wins from 28 starts. Trained by Matt Boland and will be ridden by Mark Du Plessis. Up in distance could cause an upset.

Do not underestimate the Donald “Ducky” Baker runner – Jochberg (8) to be ridden by Skye Bogenhuber. He has a habit of training them for a win here at Kilcoy at nice prices – could just cause an upset.

Bofors (9) is trained down the road at the Sunshine Coast by Stuart Kendrick and Anthony Allen has the ride. Up in grade and down in weight - does have a nice turn of foot late – he is only a three-year-old – maybe he has the most improvement in him.

Selections:

3 – Gunnobe
4 – Octavian
9 – Bofors
8 – Jochberg
Rough chances – (6) Inching Closer

Race 8

Over the 1900 metres here for the second leg of the treble.

Large field as well. This is going to prove difficult.

Zouzouzalo (1) has won here three starts ago – trained by Kevin Kemp and co-owned by the President of the Kilcoy Race Club Mr Con Searle. This runner will be ridden by Cecily Eaton again who won on him last time at the track. He has drawn awkwardly in barrier 14 so she may have to push forward early – hopefully he can settle and come back underneath her quickly.

Gonzo (4) is co-trained by Corey & Kylie Geran – will be ridden by Stephanie Lacey. This three-year-old has always shown some ability and finally broke through for his maiden win last start at Toowoomba over the mile. The rise in distance is no drama and he is fourth up this preparation. He has been racing consistently since resuming with two good placings and the win.

Puckish (5) likes longer distances and is well placed here by the Michael Nolan team – Baylee Nothdurft to ride. Was sent out at long odds last start at Toowoomba over 1850 metres – just second up and worked home nicely – if throws in an effort like that here – he wins this race.

I give a rough hope to the Diane Murphy trained Bartalumba (10) to be ridden by Chris Meehan. Always races handy in behind the speed – last run was doing well over 1850 metres at Toowoomba in a similar grade. Maybe with some cover and racing handy he could cause an upset.

Selections:

5 – Puckish

4 – Gonzo
10 – Bartalumba
1 – Zouzouzalo

Race 9

The last race of the day over 1200 metres at class 2 grade.

Another large field – I think the punters will be happy to have a drink and watch this one!

Well, there is something in this horse’s name – Hidden Secret (12) – the jockey is a pretty good one that continues to fly under the radar – plus she is always smiling – I wonder if I get the tongue out if she can win this race – Lani Fancourt. She won on this Alan Robinson trained runner a month ago here – the mare has been kept fresh and is drawn well – I hope she can win the last race.

Applecross (3) is trained by Barry Lockwood and is third up here this weekend for the stable. On his best form he will take up a prominent position and should be in the firing line when the judge calls a halt to the race.

Credenza (5) is first up for the new stable in QLD – now trained by Glenn Richardson. Only a lightly raced three-year-old but should be strong here and normally races in a forward position. Has had the one trial and looked like he will be ready to go once he hits the racetrack. Watch for any support for this runner closer to race time.

Learning Curve (10) another Chris Anderson trained runner that could cause some headaches for the opposition here in the last race.

Selections:

12 – Hidden Secret
3 – Applecross
5 – Credenza
10 – Learning Curve

WINNO V COLLINS

WINNO will take on ANTHONY COLLINS this weekend at Kilcoy – another filthy QUEENSLANDER. Bring your best COLLINS – would hate to put 50 on you as NSW did in Game 1. On a serious note – I have not seen him for a while – he is a wonderful race caller and always brings something new each week – I bet the “penultimate” gets a run this weekend! Be sure to check out Facebook where I will post our updated tips and any late mail!
