NOW THE WARWICK MEETING IS ABANDONED

By Graham Potter | Monday, July 5, 2021

Queensland racing just can’t catch a break at the moment. The Warwick meeting, originally scheduled for last Sunday and the then transferred to this Wednesday, because of the state of the track, has now officially been abandoned.

As stated on the Racing Queensland website, ‘The abandonment decision was made following the determination that there is no likelihood that the racing surface will recover sufficiently in time for Wednesday’s meeting to take place.’

The Warwick meeting thus becomes the sixth meeting in Queensland to be abandoned outright since the start of the month. A further three meetings did get underway during this time but were also called off before reaching the halfway stage.

The big Sunshine Coast meeting, featuring the Winx Guineas, the Caloundra Cup and the Glasshouse Handicap was also a victim of the weather last Saturday, but that meeting is still alive having been transferred, with new nominations called for, to this coming Sunday.
