TRUE SELF LIKELY TO MISS SPRING CARNIVAL

By Graham Potter | Monday, August 2, 2021

OTI Racing had tweeted the disappointing news that their well performed mare True Self … ‘is now unlikely to make her way out to Melbourne this Spring Carnival due to a suspensory issue.’

As part of her international schedule the Willie Mullins trained daughter of Oscar has made her presence felt in Australia over the last two seasons, finishing second to Prince Of Arran in the Geelong Cup in 2019 before going on to win the 2019 Group 3 Queens Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington when partnered by Ryan Moore.

True Self was back in Australia in 2020 where, firstly, she finished unplaced behind Verry Elleegant in the Caulfield Cup before coming out and making it impressive back-to-back wins in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Last year, for the second year in succession, True Self missed gaining a run in the Melbourne Cup by one spot in the order of entry but, on both occasions, she did earn the $200,000 consolation bonus open to horses balloted out of the Cup who go on to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes … which is a pretty useful consolation prize.

The hope was that the next trip would be third time lucky, but injury has ruled seemingly ruled out that option.

The OTI tweet ended with this sentiment … ‘Most disappointing news for all involved but we hope to see her make it back to the track in future.’
