WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 14, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, August 12, 2021

Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “GOOD”. The rail is out 5 metres for the entire circuit.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Glorious Ruby resumes here for trainer Bryan Dais. Leah Kilner who is riding in superb form keeps her association with this filly and claims 3 kilograms – that makes her very appealing here. She won a recent trial as well and looks ready to fire. Has never raced at this track – that may be of some concern.

Secret Tales (3), trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted, also resumes and comes off a solid trial effort. Stephanie Thornton rides this one.

Will be great to see the two housemates going at it here in the first – maybe a side bet – the loser does the dishes for a week!

Selections:

1 – Glorious Ruby
3 – Secret Tales
4 – She’s Heavenly
2 – Princess Bojack

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1000 metres.

Chris Anderson trains Gemelon Bolt (2) who resumes here – Brad Stewart will ride. Has won a recent trial and I think gets the run of the race behind the likely leader Legal Spirit (1).

Legal Spirit (1) will get out in front and be difficult to run down if there is a track bias. Donald “Ducky” Baker trains this runner, and he will be ridden by Madeleine Wishart who claims 3 kilograms. The gelding has an impressive record with 5 starts for 4 wins.

The Kewess (5) is trained by Melissa Taylor and Jim Byrne rides. He resumes here after a nice hit out at his home track recently – will also appreciate a solid tempo in the race. This runner has the blinkers and tongue tie going on – this is a significant gear change and I think that he is a great each way chance here.

Selections:

2 – Gemelon Bolt
5 – The Kewess
1 – Legal Spirit
3 – Sacca

Race 3

A large field over 1500 metres.

Lee Freedman trains Safeeya (8) who won here two starts ago over 1400 metres. Last start I think she may have suffered the second up yips. She was very gallant in a blanket finish. The extra distance, down in weights and racing on the speed with Jim Byrne aboard, this runner appeals to me.

Mishani Epic (4) stormed home over 1300 metres last time out here. Steps up to 1500 metres and this looks an ideal race for the Les Ross runner. Brad Stewart is aboard this weekend – he is a strong rider and will be getting the best out of this runner late. Just some concern if they are not making ground early in the day.

Mosshiki (5) is trained by Robert Heathcote and Leah Kilner will ride – second up here and must be respected.

Nichikori (9) is a Matthew Dunn Racing runner who was flashing home at Grafton over the Carnival and then won easily at Ballina. Steps up in grade and distance, but again if they are making up distance in the races this runner has to be considered.

Selections:

8 – Safeeya
4 – Mishani Epic
5 – Mosshiki
9 – Nishikori

Race 4

Chris Anderson has another nice one here engaged in Profit (3) who has been out of form. He does like this track and will benefit from the small field – only 7 runners. Jaden Lloyd rides and will take a 3-kilogram claim – that gets him in well here. Jaden will need to be able to time his run to perfection as this runner can leave you with your heart in your mouth late in his races. The speed should be on with Zigallene (6) engaged – so this runner should get conditions to suit and find his way back to the winner’s stalls.

I must give a massive push for the Rob Heathcote runner Plitvice (7) who will be ridden by his stable apprentice Leah Kilner. This runner is third up and, despite his recent form looking average on paper, he thrives at Eagle Farm and third up has a tremendous record with four starts – three wins and a second placing. He is at $21 in some markets and expect to give you a great sight at massive odds.

Matowi (2) from the Chris Waller Gold Coast team with Luke Dittman aboard can race handy and may be in the firing line late.

Selections:

3 – Profit
7 – Plitvice
2 – Matowi
6 – Zigallene

Race 5

This would have to be the toughest race of the day over 2400 metres. Who knows what to do here?

Robert Heathcote and Robbie Fradd combine with Warp Speed (1). It will need some of that “warp speed” to chase down the likely leader Two Smokin Barrels (4). He did work home late last start when defeated by London Banker who came out and won again last weekend.

Two Smokin Barrels (4), trained by Ben Ahrens, led last start and was run down late - that was on a quick back up of 7 days. Has had two weeks between runs now and should be very competitive in this race. Ronnie Stewart remains aboard.

One For Betty (2) could be the surprise packet here. She is trained by David Vandyke and steps up to this long distance for her first time – fourth up into this preparation and has been racing as if she is looking for longer.

Selections:

1 – Warp Speed
4 – Two Smokin Barrels
2 – One For Betty
5 – Blacklog

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie.

Looked for some value here in this race with the Gollan Racing trained Big Bad Bruce (7) who will be ridden by Jim Byrne. Got back from the wide barrier last time out at Doomben and still worked home extremely well late. Drawn barrier 4 this weekend, should be only 3 or 4 pairs back and should finish the race off strong late. This is his third run this preparation and he could win at a nice price for punters – currently $9 on offer.

Ready Babe (6) is a Mark Currie trained runner who was very good second up here when beaten in a blanket finish by Cinderella. Since then, she returned to her home track in Toowoomba and brained them at a short price of $1.60. She will be in this race again. Brad Stewart gets back aboard her here.

Lady Banff (5) is a Matthew Dunn Racing runner who was working home nicely a fortnight ago here when beaten by Eloquently. Baylee Nothdurft will ride this mare who has always shown some ability. She is the early favourite, but I expect that she will get out in the market as there usually is a mountain of support for the Mi Runner – Dusty Tycoon (4).

Genzai The Wolf (1) has a huge 62.5 kilograms to carry less the 3 kilograms for Maddy Wishart. He does go well here at Eagle Farm and despite the large weight should not be overlooked in this class.

Selections:

7 – Big Bad Bruce
6 – Ready Babe
5 – Lady Banff
1 – Genzai The Wolf

Race 7

First leg of the treble.

Champagne Aunty (8), trained by Steve Tregea, won here last time out with a superb ride with Larry Cassidy in the saddle. She looks the likely leader here this weekend. She is third up, loves the track and will not be troubled by the 1825 metres of this race. There has been good support for this runner since the markets opened.

I am looking for a little value in the Chris Waller Racing runner Relucent (6) to be ridden by Luke Dittman. He raced well here a fortnight at a similar distance and I just think that, after being relocated from Victoria to QLD, he may have just peaked on his run late. I expect him to strip fitter this weekend after some more QLD sun on his back!

Predictable Miss (11) I thought was a massive chance last time out at $41. She flew home and ran second over the mile in the race won by Champagne Aunty (8) – on that run the extra distance will enhance her chances and she does get in well again with the claim for Leah Kilner.

There are plenty of other chances here – play wide for mine – it could be a rough result for punters.

Selections:

6 – Relucent
8 – Champagne Aunty
11 – Predictable Miss
10 – Eelloh
Rough chance – (2) Spanish Point & (9) Sukodu

Race 8

A race over 1200 metres.

Sea Raider (5) just loves this track. Stephanie Thornton rides him this weekend and he drops back to 1200 metres where he seems to thrive – must be considered.

Weboughtazou (8) led them here last start over the 1200 metres and was run down in the final bound. Always races handy and may be able to take a sit if Sea Raider (5) pushes forward like he normally does. That would mean the David Vandyke trained runner will get a nice smother and maybe Michael Cahill can get him first past the post this week.

Royal Hale from Gollan Racing races well second up and likes this track. Gollan has gone for the claim this weekend with Jaden Lloyd booked to ride. This could be a winning move – he gets in well against the opposition.

Peppi La Few (3) has had 3 weeks between runs and can pull out an effort third run in from a spell. The money went on in the truck loads last time out on the Gold Coast and he got run down in the final stages. Senior rider in Brad Stewart goes on this week – maybe that will be the difference.

Selections:

8 – Weboughtazou
4 – Royal Hale
5 – Sea Raider
3 - Peppi La Few

Race 9

The last race of the day is over 1400 metres.

Ulysses (2), trained by Michael & Richard Freedman, won at Doomben last time out. The big question is can the gelding come across the road at Eagle Farm and continue that winning form. He goes up in weight and that may be a pending issue as well. He will have no drama with the distance – speed will be genuine in the race – Michael Cahill to ride again – maybe consecutive wins are possible.

Dreamreacher (5) is a last start winner as well for the Gold Coast trainer Gillian Heinrich. That win was a month ago in Class 3 grade. He goes up in weight and class – but he did get the job done impressively last time with Jimmy Orman in the saddle. Orman retains the ride and he will be competitive again after the freshen up.

Barney’s Law (12) could upset these more favoured runners. He is third up here for Mark Currie and will be ridden by Taylor Marshall this weekend. I keep going back to his third up stats that show that he thrives third up – 3 starts for 2 wins. Maybe at $21 this runner could cause an upset in the last race of the day.

Avowal (8) was a dominant leader when he won easily for Lindsay Hatch at a midweek meeting here. He drastically drops in weight and does get further relief of 3 kilograms for Kate Cowan. The gelding with such a light weight could ping the gates and lead them here – could be the winning move!

Selections:

2 – Ulysses
5 – Dreamreacher
12 – Barney’s Law
8 – Avowal
Rough chance – (3) Stuttering

WINNO V FOWLER

DAVID FOWLER got WINNO last weekend – we managed 6 winners between us – some at some good prices. FLEMO is still having a well-earned break so I will see if I can turn the tables on my HRO colleague this weekend! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
