FOLLOW UPDATED NEWS AND RESULTS FROM MICHAEL NOLAN RACING

The Michael Nolan trained Kisukano has always been a class act and her entry in an Open Handicap over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast on October 16 did not go unnoticed.

The now five-year-old Bel Esprit mare may have had her issues over time, most notably her manners at the starting gates, but her well above average ability has never been in doubt since it was brought to the fore very early in her career.

Kisukano won the $500 000 QTIS Two-Year-Old Jewel in only her fourth start to rubber stamp her standing at the time and the fact that win was part of a sequence of successes (including a hat trick of wins) which saw the Nolan trained runner claim six victories from her first eight starts only further enhanced her reputation.

Later she would finish third in the $150 000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas and the $130 000 Listed Eureka Stud Tatts Classic … as well as claim as runner-up finish in the Listed $200 000 Nudgee Stakes.

Since those first eight runs (and those six wins), Kisukano had, in fact, finished in the first three places in nine of her eighteen subsequent runs leading into this latest Sunshine Coast assignment. Read more ...

KISUKANO BACK WHERE SHE BELONGS (OCTOBER 16)

To kick off with a winner in the first two-year-old race of the season in Queensland is obviously always a huge plus for any stable, and when that result is achieved at your home track on its biggest race-day of the year, it just adds another element to the level of satisfaction and celebration.

That was the result outcome produced by the Michael Nolan trained filly Bedaub when she triumphed in the QTIS Pat O’Shea Plate which was contested over 1000m at Toowoomba on September 24.

Not that the daughter of Easy Rocking was always earmarked for the race.

“When we first had her in work … she was a little bit small and we weren’t thinking of an early two-year-old race or anything like that,” explained Michael Nolan.

“We thought we would just educate her with a few other young ones and turn her out.

“That was the plan … but then, as she progressed in the prep, she handled the work … she was a beautiful moving horse … and she just took everything in her stride.

“Before she was due to go out, we let her come down the running and one of the work riders commented how good she went, so we only gave her a short break and brought her back in … now with the Pat O’Shea race in mind. Read more ...
