WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, SEPTEMBER 4, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, September 2, 2021

Eagle Farm this weekend where the track rated “GOOD” and he rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. Who knows what we will get this weekend – one thing is for sure there must be some concern with the number of horses that have been nominated for the meeting this weekend – the fields are very small and some already have been effected by some early scratchings.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Not a race I am very keen on – I will be enjoying lunch.

Relucent (6), trained by Chris Waller, was first up in QLD last start here over 1835 metres. He was in a blanket finish and seemed to fade late. He will strip fitter for that run. Luke Dittman will ride.

Aswaat (8) comes off a win over the mile last time out at Sunshine Coast – if she puts in an effort like that, she will be competitive here with the claim for Leah Kilner. This runner has been smashed in the betting since the markets opened firming from $4 to $3.

Selections:

6 – Relucent
8 – Aswaat
4 – Sokudo
9 – Blackboots

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1600 metres.

Rob Heathcote’s runners are well placed here over the mile. Sergeant Silva (2) won last start at the Sunshine Coast and will be ridden by stable apprentice Leah Kilner, while Duchess Rothesay (8) won at the Gold Coast and will be ridden by Brad Stewart – this runner has been well supported since the markets have opened.

I like the Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted trained Secret Tales (5) who is third up here with Stephanie Thornton to ride. Her first two runs this time in have been over 1000m and 1200m. She did win well last time in over 1400 metres and I am just punting that she will be better over the mile here this weekend.

Finsceal (1) is trained by Tom Button and Jim Byrne retains the ride. Was a solid effort last time out a fortnight ago over 1400 metres when beaten by Release The Beans. The run was very good – if he settles here he should be right in the finish.

Selections:

5 – Secret Tales
1 – Finsceal
2 – Sergeant Silva
8 – Duchess Rothesay

Race 3

On paper looks like a repeat battle of the two who ran 1 – 2 last time here.

Baanone (1) trained by Sears Racing defeated Adelase (6) trained by Barry Baldwin over the mile. Last time out Adelase (6) was forced to lead and was a sitting duck. Maybe with Foreign Territory (2) engaged and likely to go forward she may be able to turn the tables.

I still think that Baanone (1) with the claim for Kyle Wilson-Taylor (KWT), who comes off a winning double last weekend, may just get the job done again.

Selections:

1 – Baanone
6 – Adelase
3 – Seeingisbelieving
2 – Foreign Territory

Race 4

Another small field – this time over 2200 metres.

Let’s start with this – if there is a leader’s bias on the track you must have the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott trained Navy Cross on top here with Jimmy Orman to ride for the NSW stable. Was run down late last time out at Kembla Grange over 2000 metres – but will be better for that effort.

If they can make ground and finish off late, Sciconic from the Richard & Michael Freedman yards to be ridden by Jim Byrne would have derived a mountain of benefit from his last start defeat from Top Order (5). There was a month between runs and stepping up to 2206 metres may have just caught him a run short. Should be difficult to beat.

Top Order (5) won with a gem of a ride by Taylor Marshall last time sneaking up along the rails over this track and distance for trainer Kim Anderson – despite going up in weight I think he will still be competitive.

Selections:

6 – Sciconic
4 – Navy Cross
5 – Top Order
2 – Honorable Spirit

Race 5

The race started with eight runners – two early scratchings in the race – not many left now.

This is a battle supreme – in the red corner, the powerful Brisbane based stable Gollan Racing is represented by Le Palmier (1) who was smashed in the betting last start and just missed. This weekend he will be ridden by Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

In the blue corner, the powerful Toowoomba based stable Mark Currie Racing is represented by Je Suis Belle (4) who won here last start with some nice sectionals with Taylor Marshall aboard.

Personally, I cannot split them!

The claim for KWT on the topweight may just see him get the chocolates – but in a battle of this magnitude the judge may call a dead heat! Wow wouldn’t that be something I declare a dead heat and the judge cannot split them.

Take your pick for the rest of them.

Selections:

1 – Le Palmier
4 – Je Suis Belle
7 – Sweet Rhapsody
2 – Kalik

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie – a small field again.

There is some speed in this race.

Royal Hale from Gollan Racing was too good for them here last time out – Jaden Lloyd rode then, and they go around again here this weekend. If he reproduces that effort he will be difficult to hold out.

Genzai The Wolf (4) gets in well with the claim for Madeleine Wishart and does like this track – do not underestimate his chances.

Aheadofhistime (8) comes off a solid run during the Grafton Carnival and then has won two in a row at Coffs Harbour for Trevor Hardy. Michael Cahill rides – he could upset these local runners.

Selections:

3 – Royal Hale
4 – Genzai The Wolf
8 – Aheadofhistime
6 – Superbowl Sunday

Race 7

First leg of the treble.

Again, the race has been decimated by early scratchings.

Undeniable won here last start for NSW trainer Matthew Smith. Perfectly ridden on that occasion by KWT and looks well placed in the class again.

Red Rubi (5) has won her last two starts after a spell, so she aims for a hat trick of wins here for the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted team – Stephanie Thornton remains aboard here this weekend.

Ingear (5) resumes for Gollan Racing – could be a big day for Tony Gollan’s team if Ryan Maloney can get her to win first up from a spell. The recent trial was good in preparation for this first up effort.

Selections:

7 – Undeniable
5 – Red Rubi
4 – Ingear
10 – Jubai Pride

Race 8

A race for the three-year-olds over 1000 metres.

Some interest here in the large number of owners in The Rattlesnake (7) who will be looking to build on his win first up at Ipswich for the Chris Anderson stable. Taylor Marshall has the ride – can he slither in and win – not today!

Sorry James Goves and family – the WINNO curse is on!

The stablemate is Snowdrop (10) who was well supported first up here over this track and distance – just seemed to not jump and get into stride early. This weekend, second up with Jim Byrne aboard, I fancy her chances down on the minimum to cause an upset.

The other stable runner is Rubiquitous (4) who won a recent trial. He is only lightly raced and could pose a genuine threat.

Munce Racing has Rhapsody Rose (1) resuming here from a 14-week spell. She does race well. Ryan Maloney is riding her – she is a genuine threat.

The Kewess (3) won last weekend at the Sunshine Coast and is on the quick back up here for Melissa Taylor. Jimmy Orman won on him last weekend shooting him to the front and getting the job done well. Just raced a little greenly for mine late – but still an impressive effort.

Talking about impressive – a big shout out and WINNO congratulations to Jimmy Orman and Heidi Whalley who welcomed their new baby daughter “Hallie Ann” into the world on Wednesday 1 September – little Floyd has a baby sister now – congratulations to you both!

Selections:

10 – Snowdrop
1 – Rhapsody Rose
3 – The Kewess
4 – Rubiquitous

Race 9

The last race of the day over 1400 metres. This is the largest field of the day!

I am going for the Robert Heathcote trained Deep Sceiva (9) who is on the quick back up after winning last weekend over 1350 metres at Doomben. This weekend Ryan Maloney goes on – Leah Kilner rode the mare last weekend and gave her a wonderful ride. This weekend I think she will settle off the speed that is in the race and storm home late. Her sectionals were great last weekend.

The stablemate Dusty Tycoon (3) will have Leah Kilner aboard. I just think she struggles at the distance, however, she will give the massive number of the MiRunners syndicate a massive site.

Team Gollan Racing has Vinco (1) carrying an enormous weight. Comes off a solid win here a fortnight ago. Has the claim for KWT and will be competitive? This runner is very strong late – I just hope the weight does not stop that customary sprint that he possesses late.

John Moore trains Samurai (2) with Jaden Lloyd to ride. A small gear change this weekend with the winkers coming off and the blinkers going on. Has turned the corner since being relocated to the Moore Racing team and has been consistent – this runner must be respected.

Avowal (4) led them up last start and was run down late here. The sectionals were slow in that race – just may have flattered the performance. Bobby El-Issa rides for Toowoomba trainer Lindsay Hatch – must carry a big weight this weekend.

A massive watch on the Barry Lockwood trained Fifteen Rounds (7) – won here last start impressively – again is over the odds this weekend at $12. Jimmy Orman to ride again. There is no one riding better now – keep safe.

Selections:

9 – Deep Sceiva
1 – Vinco
2 – Samurai
7 – Fifteen Rounds
Rough chance – (4) Avowal

WINNO V FLEMO

WINNO got DAVID FOWLER last weekend – we managed 5 winners between us – some at some good prices. This weekend FLEMO is back – fresh up from a spell (well earned) – maybe worth following him – but I plan on smashing him this weekend – welcome back FLEMO! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
