TOO EASY FOR RED SANDERS AT GATTON ON DEBUT FOR THE SEARS TRAINING PARTNERSHIP

By Graham Potter | Monday, November 15, 2021

It is always gratifying for a trainer when a new horse comes into the stable and they get it to win first-up.

That was the case with the Sears Training partnership who took over the training duties of the three-year-old Foxwedge filly Red Sanders from the Mick Price and Michael Kent team and sent it out to claim a resounding debut win for the stable in a Maiden Handicap over 860m at Gatton on November 15.

While it has to be acknowledged that the overall quality of the runners who finished behind Red Sanders is questionable, the result … a first win for Red Sanders in four career start (she had not placed previously) … is on the board and, arguably, it might prove to be not only a winning run, but a confidence building experience as Red Sanders took command of the race early on and powered home strongly under Angela Jones to score by a widening two length margin.

Red Sanders started a $2.10 with the runner-up Emmy Regina ($4) being the only other runner quoted in single figures … so the win was certainly anticipated by some, even though her previous record … in which she was unplaced in three starts at Wangaratta, Kyneton and Echuca, twice finishing more than ten lengths back, was not encouraging.

Bigger tests will follow but, for now, that all important first win is on the board and the indications are that, as a lightly raced three-year-old, Red Sanders would appear to have scope for further improvement as her career moves forward.
