GOLDEN SIXTY EXTENDS HIS EXTRAORDINARY WINNING SEQUENCE WHICH DATES BACK TO JULY 2019

By Graham Potter | Sunday, November 21, 2021

Golden Sixty has made it fifteen wins on the trot with a facile win in HK$4.75 million G2 BOCHK Private Wealth Jockey Club Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin.

It is now twenty-eight months since Golden Sixty tasted defeat back in July 2019. As such, he unsurprisingly started at very restrictive odds, and another comfortable win when beating the likes of Group 1 winners Waikuku and Sky Darci merely underlined the fact that Golden Sixty is right on track to complete the Hong Kong Mile double at the 2021 Longines Hong Kong International Races on December 12.

Golden Sixty’s latest success took the son of Medaglia d’Oro to a record equalling eighteen career win in Hong Kong, alongside Beauty Generation and Silent Witness, and his sequence of 15 successive victories has him closing in on Silent Witness’s record of seventeen wins in a row.

That is mixing with the highest of high quality.

Not that they needed it, but jockey Vincent Ho had a word of warning for Golden Sixty’s future rivals after the race.

“He definitely wasn’t at his best today and we’re still building him up. After this race he should be pretty close to his top form,” Ho said. ““He saw the winning post and he was sort of already ‘job done’ and he tried to slow down, but I said ‘just give me two extra strides, please’.”

“We’ll see how he pulls up and do some recovery work on him and get him ready for the Internationals.”

Trainer Francis Lui was equally as pleased with Golden Sixty’s latest effort.

“I must say we were confident in this race, but I’m happy to see him win again,” said Lui. “This horse has got a very good fighting heart and once he relaxes he has a very good turn of foot.”

Enough of a turn of foot for Golden Sixty to take his earnings to HK$80.633 million.

Golden Sixty dominated last season’s Champion Awards, named Horse of the Year, Champion Miler, Champion Middle-Distance Horse and Most Popular Horse and few would bet against him adding to his already burgeoning list of achievements.
