IT'S NOT JUST THE WINNERS. THE SUPPORTING CAST ALSO HELPS KEEP A TRAINING BUSINESS VIABLE

By Graham Potter | Monday, November 29, 2021

An eighteen percent winning strike rate for the Tony and Maddysen Sears Training Partnership for the months of October and November represented a good return by any trainer’s standards, but a stable’s strength can also be defined by its supporting cast of runners and, here again, the Sears yard came up trumps.

That fact shines through clearly when the stable’s last fifty runners up until the end of November is taken into account.

Apart from their nine winners over this period, the Sears stable also claimed ten second places and nine third places (you can also include five fourth places in that if you like) … meaning that the Sears runners featured in the first three in no less than fifty-six percent of races during this time.

The nine winners leading the way were Piracy (x3), Single Dizire (x2), Dynamic Duo, Prometheus Red Sanders and Winneba (all one win each).

Apart from their wins … Prometheus also recorded both a second place and a third place finish while Piracy also put a third place finish behind his name.

Other second, third and fourth place finishers were:
Second; Dark Son (x2), Imadgic (x2), Mojo Baby (x2), Illicit Affairs, Kobang and Lady Fey.

Third: Illicit Affairs (x2), Better Than Best, Imadgic, Mojo Baby, Raging Pole and Ralph’s Honour.

Fourth: Maya Bay (x2), Better Than Best, Baanone, Trengganu.

First is better than second but, then again, second is better than third and third is better than fourth and so on … with the bottom line being that all results count in putting the pieces of the puzzle together to make a training business a viable one.

So, while there are no superstars listed here, this is clearly a stable where a wide spectrum of horses that pull their weight … and no trainer, owner or stable staff could ask for more than that.
