GLORY VASE LANDS HIS SECOND HONG KONG VASE

By Darren Winningham | Sunday, December 12, 2021

Glory Vase has entered the record books of the LONGINES Hong Kong Vase race history by winning the race for the second time in 2021.

The LONGINES Hong Kong Vase is worth HK$20 million in 2021.

The Japanese stallion, trained by Tomohito Ozeki and ridden by Joao Moreira, joined an elite club of horses with previous multiple winners being Luso (1996 & 1997), Doctor Dino (2007 & 2008) and Highland Reel (2015 & 2017) while securing yet another victory for Japan in these feature LONGINES races that are held annually at Sha Tin.

The British trained Pyledriver was ridden by Martin Dwyer who drove him into the lead and he looked all over a winner before a barnstorming run was unleashed on the Japanese Glory Vase by Joao Moreira.

After the race Moreira said, "I had a smooth run, going to the fence and saving ground. I just made sure I got into the clear and I know he’s a very strong horse at the finish and there was not a fight.

“He has proven to be the best horse today.”

Ebaiyra, the French horse ridden by Christophe Soumillon ran a gallant third in the race after over-racing in the early stages.
