TWO WORDS YOU WON'T SEE TOGETHER TOO OFTEN

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, January 4, 2022

Waller winless!!!

Well, there are two word’s you didn’t think you would see together … and, rest assured, you are not going to see it often, but that indeed was the case on New Year’s day where the undisputed heavyweight champion trainer of Australia sent out a total of fourteen runners in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and failed to land a single knockout blow.

So, Chris Waller is human after-all.

At the Kensington track Waller had nine runners with his best results being two runner-up finishes.

Bucking the usual trend in Sydney, only two of the Waller’s runners there started as outright favourites. Whether that had more to do with the form of the runners or whether the absence on the day of Waller’s riding stars James McDonald and Hugh Bowman played its part is a matter of conjecture.

At Flemington the Waller stable saddled just two runners, the best being a third placed finish, while at Doomben Waller sent three runners into action where he had to settle for a second, a third and a fourth placing.

And, no, the alarm bells are not ringing. It is not even a minor hiccup on the radar.

While it is a rare occurrence, it is also almost certainly just the calm before the storm and most punters will expect normal business to be resumed sooner rather than later.

Some would say, you can bet on it!
