TOOROOLOO RESUMES HER WINNING WAYS

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, January 12, 2022

On January 12, 2022 the David Vandyke trained Toorooloo appeared second-up in a BM75 Handicap over 1100m at Doomben.

Eleven days earlier, on New Year’s Day, the daughter pf Tycoon Ruler had resumed following a month’s layoff when racing over 1200m in a 0-90 Handicap. On that occasion she finished fifth behind Dr Why Not.

Now, with the benefit of that first-up run, the four-year-old was primed to resume her winning ways (she had won four of her previous eight starts) and Toorooloo ($2.20) did just that, although she did have to work for much of the straight to take care of the stubborn resistance of the eventual runner-up Wudang Blade ($12).

Toorooloo was tardy away, but Ryan Maloney was quick to hustle her forward, as per the proposed pre-race plan, and Toorooloo duly settled in second spot, a little over a length back to the outside of Wudang Blade who had taken up the early running.

Maloney asked Toorooloo to get closer to Wudang Blade approaching the home turn, but the leader had been saved for a final kick down the home straight and it took all the way to the 200m mark before Maloney was able to edge Toorooloo to the front.

Even then though, Wudang Blade tried to fight back, keeping Toorooloo honest, but the Vandyke runner had cemented her advantage over Wudang Blade in the closing stages allowing Maloney to be easy on her over the final strides.

That’s five wins from only nine starts now for Toorooloo and she also has a third and a fourth place to her credit.

Toorooloo was the first leg of a race to race double that the stable landed on the day with Kerchak doing the honours some thirty five minutes after Toorooloo had saluted.
