FRANKIE DETTORI TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

By Graham Potter | Friday, January 28, 2022

Frankie Dettori will be sidelined for a short period of time after testing positive to Covid-19.

The gun jockey was due to ride at Meydan in Dubai where he looked to have a strong chance of taking out the Zabeel Mile on Friday with the Saeed bin Suroor trained Real World.

Dettori confirmed the news via Twitter … posting a video in which he said, “I won’t be riding this weekend as I have tested positive for Covid.

‘I’m restricted to my room for a few days. I’m feeling a bit under the weather, but I’ve had my vaccine so we should survive.

'I’ll keep you posted, but I’m not going to be doing much anyway. Ciao.

Meanwhile, Real World will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record on turf.

After his career appeared to be only marking time while racing on dirt, a switch to grass revitalised the Godolphin five-year-old who went on to land all of the Royal Hunt Cup Handicap at Royal Ascot (his turf debut), the Listed Steventon Stakes, the Group 3 Strensall Stakes (G3) and the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein (G2) at Longchamp.

In the absence of Dettori, Danny Tudhope has now picked up the plum ride.
