TOO EASY FOR EVEN NOW

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, March 2, 2022

The two-year-old filly Even Now had finished second in her two previous starts coming into her assignment in a QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap over 1210m at Toowoomba on March 2.

The meeting eventually took place at the third time of asking after having to be postponed twice (from the Saturday to the Monday to the Wednesday) because of the seriously bad weather that battered South-East Queensland … and this time Even Now was not going to settle for a minor role again.

With only three runners facing the starter, Even Now was the obvious choice as favourite and she duly started at the restrictive odds of $1.30.

Angela Jones jumped Even Now into an immediate lead without any undue effort and, while the second favourite Miss Gideon stayed in close attendance for a long way, Even Now was always travelling at a comfortable gallop and when Angela Jones gave her just a little bit more rein approaching the home turn, Even Now quickly put up two lengths on Miss Gideon.

The race turned into a mere procession in the home straight with Even Now extending her advantage … again seemingly without ever hitting top gear … and she came home, being eased up close to the line, by a massive … wait for it … 9.30 length winning margin.

It was just too easy!
