BIG DECISION PENDING ON DOOMBEN 10 000 VENUE

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, May 10, 2022

A big decision awaits the Brisbane racing Club and Racing Queensland tomorrow when a call will be made whether to go ahead with the big Doomben 10 000 meeting at Doomben or whether to switch the race-day to Eagle Farm.

The prevailing weather tomorrow and the weather forecast over the days leading into Saturday will be the deciding factor.

Earlier a huge rain event was predicted for the week. So far that threat has not materialised to the expected level, but the threat is still imminent, hence the early move to have a contingency plan in place.

The current rain forecast for Brisbane by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is 15-25mm (Tuesday), 50mm to 70mm (Wednesday), 20 to 40mm (Thursday), 30mm to 60mm (Friday) and 2mm to 10mm (on Saturday).

Not that BOM’s tips are always a certainty … but the dice certainly does seem to be loaded in terms of where the final decision might fall as Eagle Farm, whatever its other faults might be, does have a very good drainage system.

In fairness, for participants to be able to weigh up their options with all of the relevant information available to them, the deadline for acceptors for Saturday’s meeting has been delayed from Tuesday to Wednesday morning at 11am … after a final decision on the race venue has been made.
