FULL SISTER TO HINGED WINS ON DEBUT FOR NOLAN

By Graham Potter | Saturday, April 16, 2022

A very interesting runner made his debut for the Michael Nolan stable in a QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1100m at the Gold Coast on April 16.

Nolan was happy to run Hue, a Worthy Cause out of Tints filly, on a heavy 8 track first-up after Hue had finished second in a trial at Toowoomba eleven days before.

The breeding … Worthy Cause / Tints … does it ring a bell?

Well just to refresh your memory, Hue’s breeding makes her a full sister to Hinged, a horse whose early career was guided by Nolan who took Hinged to five wins and two seconds in the seven starts he had Hinged under his care … before the big buyers arrived flourishing cheque books and Hinged was whisked away from Toowoomba, and headed south to join the Chris Waller stable.

Want even more information to give your memory a nudge?

Hinged has since won the Group 1 Surround Stakes, finished second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes and the Group 1 Vinery, finished third in the Group 1 Coolmore and finished fourth in the Group 1 AJC Oaks.

That is who Hue is a full sister to … no surprise then that her first race appearance attracted a good share of attention.

Hue, in the hands of jockey Skye Bogenhuber, was duly a fair fancy in the betting starting as a $3.90 second favourite.

The debutant left the starting gates like an old pro, jumping into an outright lead at the break. The $2.40 favourite Clover Prince, who was likewise on debut, quickly chased up to dispute the lead … and in fact edged narrowly ahead of Hue going down the back straight, but Hue laid down the law to Clover Prince again as early as the sweep to the home turn, and very quickly left the favourite behind, struggling under a hard ride.

That left Hue a couple of lengths in front on straightening and, while there was a line of horses chasing her and running on fairly enough themselves, Hue was never going to be denied her debut victory.

Bogenhuber did give Hue a couple of reminders going to the line to keep her mind on the job and she got home safely by a comfortable 1.50 length margin.

Job done … with the promise of more to come.
