MILANO BOOM PUTS HER NAME ON THE SCOREBOARD

By Graham Potter | Saturday, August 6, 2022

A QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1000m at Toowoomba on August 6 provided the stage for the Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Milano Boom to land her first career win in her first start as a three-year-old and her fifth career start overall.

The bay filly was second-up here and clearly showed the benefit of that first up outing, in which she finished unplaced when having her first run back after a five month layoff from race action.

The number one barrier draw was always going to be an advantage if Karl Zechner could get Milano Boom (a joint $3 favourite) away on terms … and he did just that, railing up well before letting the hot speed in front of him go as Clearly George ($11) and Where’s Tekay Now, the co-$3 favourite, starting to cut at each other at the head of affairs.

Zechner allowed Milano Boom to simply track the leaders in third place until the point of the home turn, where he shifted Milano Boom out three wide into clear running.

Milano Boom still had work to do though in terms of improving enough to be able to reel in the two duelling front-runners, but the Sears trained runner duly knuckled down to the task and gradually make up the required leeway before asserting her authority over the final 100m to ultimate claim victory by a comfortable 1.30 length margin.
