WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 13, 2022

By Darren Winningham | Friday, August 12, 2022

Eagle Farm this weekend where the track is rated “good” and the rail is out 5 metres for the entire circuit.

Straight into it this week.

NB: As these selections were made prior to final scratchings please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Small field over 1500 metres.

Russian Warrior (3) has declared war on Eagle Farm! She looked fresh second up – third up here and ideally placed. Allan Chau trains on the Gold Coast with Sean Cormack to ride.

Wyatt River (6) at $21 is a huge chance to upset them, here in my opinion, from the Scott Morrisey yards. Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) will ride. I think that this gelding has been working up to a distance like this. Is third up here and looks like he will be running home late in this small field.

Hellavadancer (4) had her first run on the Eagle Farm track a fortnight ago – raced well and will strip fitter from the Kris Lees stables – Jim Byrne will ride.

Selections:

3 – Russian Warrior
6 – Wyatt River
4 – Hellavadancer
5 – Betterdeel

Race 2

The first leg of the Early Quaddie is over 1000 metres – has been decimated by the early scratchings.

Ice In Vancouver (5) trained by Cody Morgan was a great winner in the Kirby over the recent Grafton Carnival. Gets in very well here with the claim for Angela Jones.

Racecourse Road (1) always races well fresh – KWT will ride for his boss Kelly Schweida Racing. I suppose the loser between Kyle Wilson-Taylor and Angela will be buying dinner! There must be a penalty when you run second to your partner!

Selections:

5 – Ice In Vancouver
1 – Racecourse Road
2 – EF Troop
7 – Shamrock Lu
Rough chance – (3) Warp Speed

Race 3

A distance race over 2200 metres.

David Vandyke trains the last start winner Fast Talking (2). Looks well placed again, however I think the extra weight will be to his detriment and may struggle late. Kyle Wilson Taylor will ride – should be in the placings

Seat Of Power (1) has struggled his past few starts on wet tracks. Back to a firm surface I expect a dramatic improvement in his form. He has the premier jockey from the previous season Jimmy Orman aboard. Looks very hard to beat.

Honorable Spirit (6) should round out the placings.

Selections:

1 – Seat Of Power
2 – Fast Talking
5 – Honorable Spirit
6 – Ostermeier

Race 4

Class 3 over 1825 metres – looks like we have a larger field engaged here.

Deficit (2) is a last start winner here over the mile and steps up slightly in distance which will suit. Jimmy Orman retains the ride, and he looks very hard to beat again.

Moktaffy (7), trained by Chris Waller, is second up in Queensland after campaigning in Melbourne previously. His debut run in a midweek race here was solid and I expect further improvement in this race.

The top wait Southern Stock (1) trained by Chris Munce has been freshened and this distance will suit. Larry Cassidy has been booked to ride.

Not a race with great depth so there are limited opportunities.

Selections:

2 – Deficit
7 – Moktaffy
1 – Southern Stock
4 – Rapaport

Race 5

A 1000 metre sprint.

The Gillian Heinrich runner Fire Love (8) debuted with a win on the Sunshine Coast. Was impressive and I think, with a run under her belt and with some of these other runners resuming, she may have the wood on them. Looked progressive enough to take the next step up in grade. Luke Tarrant will ride again – I see that he is wearing pink – he looks great in PINK as well.

Hard To Say (1) resumes here for NSW trainer Jason Deamer. Has been previously raced at this track and gone well and has been trialling well in preparation for this first up assignment. They have elected to go for the claim with Kyle Wilson Taylor to ride the colt in this race. He is drawn ideally in barrier 3 and with the speed in the race will probably just sit in behind them before making a final effort to win the race.

Jukebox Flyer (2) is trained by Claire Lever and Jim Byrne will ride. Resumed at Caulfield and ran well before being sent to Queensland to continue his campaign this preparation. Not sure how to line the form up for this runner, however she should be competitive in this race.

Flaming Conquest (1) is not without some rough chance in this field.

Selections:

8 – Fire Love
1 – Hard To Stay
2 – Jukebox Flyer
9 – Flaming Conquest

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie.

A large field here to face to the starter. I like the Tony Gollan trained Mischief Managed (7) who had no luck last start out and drops back in grade. The mare has solid second up form and with the three-kilogram claim for apprentice Angela Jones looks ideally placed and should be able to get the job done.

Jubai Pride (16) is another runner that races well fresh and has been trialling well at the Gold Coast. Larry Cassidy has been booked for this first up run and if there's any money for her in the markets, I would expect her to be extremely difficult to beat in this grade.

Hamilton Hill (10) from the Paul Butterworth yard won last time out at Toowoomba and may fill a place at huge odds.

Schiller Bay (13) is trained by Jenny Graham at Port Macquarie and was not disgraced last time here at this track and distance in a Class 6 race. He comes back in class and has solid form of this distance. I expect him to contest the placings as well.

Selections:

7 – Mischief Managed
16 – Jubai Pride
13 – Schiller Bay
10 – Hamilton Hill

Race 7

First leg of the treble. Class 6 over 1200 metres.

Legal Spirit (1) is a last start winner for trainer Donald Baker and apprentice Adin Thompson will ride again here. He should get the run of the race again with the speed on and be able to sit in behind them before unleashing his characteristic final sprint that he has. Some slight reservation this week being second up, however on his first up effort he should be able to put back-to-back wins on the board.

Safework (2) stepped up in distance last time out to 1350 metres and I don't think that is a suitable distance for this runner. Dropping back in distance I expect him to be very competitive. Sean Cormack will ride for Gold Coast trainer Scott Morrisey.

Dusty Tycoon (8) will have lots of support from the syndicate who will probably attend the track this week and be cheering loud. Brodie Loy will ride her for Robert Heathcote, and they may just cause an upset at $17.

Smart Image (5) resumes her for the new stable – Gollan Racing. He normally gets back in his races and thunders home late - again with the solid tempo that is in this race he could be suited and win at large odds. He gets in very well with the claim for apprentice Angela Jones. Do not overlook this runner.

Selections:

1 – Legal Spirit
2 – Safework
8 – Dusty Tycoon
5 – Smart Image
Rough chance – (11) The Lioness

Race 8

A race over 1600 metres.

Bottega (3) resumed for the new stable last time out and won impressively - I for one was left with egg on his face after thinking that he was no chance in the race. He proved me wrong and now stepping up to the mile in this race I expect him to be again competitive in this field. Brodie Loy will ride for Lee Freedman and there has been some support for this runner since the markets opened early in the week.

Puntura (4) has been winning on wet tracks for trainer Barry Baldwin – again will be ridden by Mark Du Plessis. I just have some concern about him getting the job done on a firm surface at Eagle Farm. I note that he has had two starts here and has not yet placed in either of those runs.

Love Tap (1) was the last start winner here getting the job done over 1400 metres for the Will & Richard Freedman yards with apprentice Kyle Wilson Taylor in the saddle. Kyle retains the ride and if he performs like he did last start he should be hard to hold out, however, I have some concerns about him running out of solid mile and think that there are other runners in the race that you should be betting on.

A side note would be that it would be interesting to see the Freedman clan fight out the race late.

The Chris Waller Racing pair of Easifar (8) and Wairere Falls (5) must be respected on their recent form.

Selections:

3 – Bottega
4 – Puntura
1 – Love Tap
8 – Easifar
Rough chance – (5) Wairere Falls

Race 9

The last race of the day over 1500m.

Chatty Lady (10) won here last time out over 1400 metres – settling midfield before making a solid sprint late and slaying the opposition. The mare is trained by Mark Currie and Kyle Wilson Taylor will ride her again. The extra distance will pose no drama for her, and she should be thereabouts again in this field.

Zou De Moon (13) resumed with a solid win over the Grafton Carnival – steps up in grade for trainer Jason Deamer and with Ryan Maloney to ride could post another win.

Hot Spring Gold (9), trained by Chris Munce, is a last start winner as well. He has had a four week freshen up since that last win - just have some concerns about him running out of solid mile – Brodie Loy will ride.

Ghostwriter (20), trained by Annabel Neasham, and performed well last time out - I expect the extra 100 metres of this race to be ideal for this gelding – keep safe.

Selections:

10 – Chatty Lady
13 – Zou De Moon
9 – Hot Spring Gold
20 – Ghostwriter
Rough chances – (2) General Dubai & (3) Magic Charlee
