DYNAMIC DUO LANDS CITY WIN FOR TEAM SEARS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, August 13, 2022

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Dynamic Duo kicked off a memorable day for the stable when he took out in a No Metro Wins Handicap over 1000m at Eagle Farm on August 13.

By the time the day’s racing was over, the Sears training partnership would also have saddled two winners at their home track at Toowoomba … Jetski and Heza Pleaza … taking the day’s haul to a very satisfying three winners.

Dynamic Duo had only finished out of the money twice in the seven starts he had for the Sears stable prior to his Eagle Farm engagement (he had transferred to the Sears team from the Tony Noonan stable in September 2021).

Significantly, during that time had registered a second and a third place finish in his previous two starts over the Eagle Farm 1000m trip, so he had track and distance credentials coming in to this latest assignment.

Mark Du Plessis landed the Not A Single Doubt gelding, who started second favourite at $4,60, in fourth spot at the break but, with the speed coming through on his outside, Dynamic Dup quickly went back to seventh place and then was inconvenienced when finding himself in restricted galloping room after the field had covered 300m … not the ideal opening that would have hoped for with Dynamic Duo jumping from barrier two.

Things didn’t really get any better on the turn where Dynamic Duo cornered three wide, with five runners spread across the track in front of him, but the upside was that the Sears trained runner was travelling well within himself.

Du Plessis kept Dynamic Duo on a straight line in the early part of the straight, before having to make a slight move outwards at the 200m mark, after which the chase was well and truly on as Dynamic Duo stated to charge home down the centre of the track, with two other swoopers in tow, and several runners still in contention along the inside.

But, the six-year-old gelding was in the process of building, impressive race winning momentum and, once Dynamic Duo hit the front coming through the 100m mark, and maintained the commitment that had got him there in the first place, the others, while staying close enough to keep Dynamic Duo honest, were really only racing for a share of the minor placings.

That’s four wins now for Dynamic Duo, with nine minor placings, and this latest win clicked his prize-money earnings up to the $150 000 mark.
