DEMON DELIVERA TOO GOOD BACK ON HIS HOME TRACK

By Graham Potter | Saturday, September 10, 2022

The Corey and Kylie trained Demon Delivera made it two wins from only five starts when he took out the QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 1 Plate over 1625m at his home track at Toowoomba on September 10.

The son of Deep Field came into the race off the back of two runs in town … which included an eye-catching second place to the more than useful, Tony Gollan trained Spiritualised (who would win again next time out to take three wins and three runner-up finishes from six starts).

While Demon Delivera did disappoint in the second of those two city runs, which were both in BM72 company, he still looked the pick of the small field of only three runners who lined up in this Class 1 contest at Toowoomba and he duly started favourite at $2 in his first race over a distance beyond 1350m.

Demon Delivera dawdled out of the starting gates, but Gary Geran was unfazed by the slow getaway and he wasted no time in showing his hand as he quickly urged Demon Delivera past the two horses in front of him before crossing both of them to lead … a position he gained with the minimum of fuss.

Once he was where he wanted to be, Geran took hold of Demon Delivera and proceeded to dictate the course of events to his own advantage.

Approaching the home turn Demon Delivera had the race firmly under his control and when he kicked in the home straight, Heroic Instinct ($3) and Tokyo Blossom ($4.60), who had been second and third respectively throughout, could not improve their positions.

While they did stay relatively close to Demon Delivera, that was because Geran was always keeping something in hand on the winner and it was a very comfortable victory in the end with Geran even having the luxury of being able to take a look over his shoulder with a little over 100m left to run.

The winning margin was 0.80 lengths.

This was Demon Delivera’s second career win and he has now won over 1200m and 1625m in both good and heavy going which suggests that there should be a good couple of race options for him moving forward.
