FOLLOW KROPP RACING

William Kropp is quietly making his way in the training ranks.

While he still only has a few horses in training and flies very much under the radar, there can be no argument about the placement of his horses and the consistent level of the results he produces.

The Top Echelon mare Priti Piper again underlined that fact when she came out and made it back-to-back wins when scoring in a band 0-60 Handicap over 1200m at Stanthorpe on October 15.

Kropp has only had the five-year-old under his care for two starts.

Kropp’s smile will be twice as big with regard to Priti Piper’s run of success as, apart from his training duties, he is also the sole owner of the horse.

Kropp three stable runners … Priti Piper, I Promise you and Tequila Dancer have only had a combined total of thirteen starts in the last six-and-a-half months … but look just how well that shows up on the results board.

His results read … 1-0-1-1-0-3-3-2-1-3-1-2-1. Read more ...

UNDER THE RADAR BUT FLYING HIGH (OCTOBER 15)

Matt Kropp saddled three winners on October 15.

The first winner off the rank was the six-year-old gelding Anacheeva Lad who saluted in a BM55 Handicap over 1400m at Mitchell.

The son of Anacheeva, who was having his eighth start for the Kropp stable since transferring from trainer Nick Walsh, came into the race on the back of two starts at the Sunshine Coast.

In those races he finished eighth (behind what looks to be a relatively smart one in the form of the David Vandyke trained Smytzer, who would go on to race in town at his next start) and fourth (behind the Kelly Schweida trained Ronlee Gal.

Those runs had Anacheeva Lad well placed here and he duly got the job done as the $2.60 favourite as two claiming apprentices … the 3kg claiming Sarah Robbins on Anacheeva Lad and the 4kg claiming Amy Graham on the $3 second favourite Buddy Ollie … fought out the finish.

The winning margin was one length. Read more ...

A MATT KROPP TREBLE (OCTOBER 15)

Festival Prince found one too good for him on the day when he attempted to add the Warwick Cup to his trophy list on October 8.

The Matt Kropp trained five-year-old had won the Dalby Cup in his previous outing and he started a $3.50 second favourite when going out in search of a Country Cups double, only to be upstaged by the unheralded $17 chance Military Kings, who made it a home-town victory for the Warwick based trainer Les Clarke.

There could be no excuses for any of the beaten runners after Military Kings came from well off the speed, chasing home as the widest runner of those in contention in the home stretch and charging away late to land the win by a telling 3.30 length margin.

In the end, Festival Prince did well to fight on for second place as he was under immense pressure from horses all around him in a torrid run home.

Two races earlier, Calm Seeker had already ensured that the Kropp stable would go home with a winner when he took out a BM60 Handicap over 1350m. (i> Read more ...

On October 1, while Vast Kama was doing the stable proud with a third place finish in town behind Gemelon Bolt and Fletch at Eagle Farm … coming home less than 1.50 lengths behind the winner … Kropp Racing took five horses to the country meeting at Tara and they got two winners there in the form of the Matt Kropp trained four-year-old mare Delaney’s Girl, who took the honours in a BM55 Handicap over 1400m, and the William Kropp trained Priti Piper, who saluted in a Class B Handicap over 1200m.

Dealaney’s Girl, a daughter of Drumbeats jumped as the $2.50 favourite with the 3kg claimer Sarah Robbins in the irons, having come into the race on the back of an eye-catching run at the Sunshine Coast over the same distance where, although she was unplaced in fifth spot, she was only 1.50 lengths behind the winner at the line, a result which hinted at some promise to come.

That credit was quickly cashed in by Delaney’s Girl although it was such a tight finish her followers wouldn’t want it over again … and that after she had been bumped and crowded soon after the start, so it was no easy watch.

This was Delaney Girl’s second career win. She had previously shed her Maiden ticket at Warwick over 1200m. Read more ...

DELANEY'S GIRL AND PRITI PIPER SCORE FOR KROPP RACING AT TARA (OCTOBER 1)

Vast Kama continues to fly the Kropp stable flag in spirited fashion.

His third place in a BM75 Handicap over 1000m at Eagle Farm on October 1 epitomises both the care and commitment that goes into the horse as well as Vast Kama’s own willingness to take on any task given him.

While winning is the ultimate prize, success does come in various forms in racing and horses who consistently pay their way, given the odds against them, realistically would fall into that category … Vast Kama being a case in point.

The five-year-old son of Spirit Of Boom might only have won once in five starts so far this season, but he has also run a second, two thirds, and a fourth place while accumulating just under $40 000 over the last two months.

That's a fair return. Read more ...

Kropp Racing did not have any midweek runners between Saturday September 10 and Saturday September 17, but on September 17 they did come out firing again having nine runners contesting races at three different venues. (Matt sending out seven runners and William saddled two starters).

Matt Kropp would only have one winner on the day, but what an historical win it was when Festival Prince landed the Dalby Cup, a 1400m Open Handicap, by a decisive 2.80 length margin.

The win added to the legacy of the Kropp stable at Dalby’s Bunja Park racecourse.

Matt Kropp’s 2022 Dalby Cup win with Festival Prince was no less than his sixth success in the Dalby Cup.

He won it with Uncle Jan in 2008, and then did the double with Modern Al and Billy Goat in 2014 and 2015 … then saluted with Zip To The Moon in 2017 and Rosie Posie in 2020 before Festival Prince took Kropp’s Cup winning total to the half-a-dozen mark.

And, just for the record, Festival Prince’s win was Kropp’s one hundred and twenty-seventh winner at the track … and he still has the distinction of being the only trainer to have recorded one hundred winners at Dalby … underlining what a force the stable is when racing takes place at Dalby. DALBY CUP 'KING' MAKES IT SIX WINS IN THE RACE (SEPTEMBER 17)

________________________________________________________________________

On the back of their successful Birdsville trip, the Matt Kropp stable announced their return to local action in style by taking out a double at Toowoomba on September 10 … their first meeting after Birdsville.

And they didn’t wait long to get off the mark, taking out the first race on the card, a Maiden Plate over 2150m with the four-year-old chestnut gelding Chosen Distance, who was marked up as the third favourite at $4.60.

It had been a bit of a slog getting Chosen Distance to the winner’s enclosure … this was her fourteenth start … but she did have three second placings and two third places to her credit in her previous outings, perhaps most notably in her lead-up run to this Toowoomba assignment which arguably continued the progressive run of form she had been showing in recent starts.

That runner-up finish was over 1640m and Kropp stepped up the distance test for Chosen Distance here to the 2150m … and the son of Dissident clearly thrived on the new challenge the race presented, underlining that fact in no uncertain terms by trouncing her nearest rival by 3.50 lengths. A KROPP STABLE DOUBLE AT TOOWOOMBA (SEPTEMBER 10)

________________________________________________________________________

The 2022 trip to Birdsville was trainer Matt Kropp’s third visit to the Birdsville Cup Carnival, a two-day race meeting which has long held an iconic event status … albeit as much for the off-track high-jinx that personifies the ‘everyone will have a good time’ spirit that engulfs the town with the arrival of hoards of visitors … then it does from any thoroughbred action on the racetrack.

“We had some placings in our first year there (in 2016),” said Kropp, and the next time (in 2019) we placed and got a win at Bedourie on the way back, but we hadn’t won at Birdsville before.”

This time, things would change.

The Kropp stable took five runners to Birdsville, two of which (Laurie and Salazar) came away as winners with the five-year-old chestnut Laurie putting an exclamation mark on a successful trip by winning races on both days of the carnival. Read more ...
