HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN TOO STRONG IN GUNSYND

By Graham Potter | Monday, May 25, 2009

Gunsynd Handicap (3yo - Quality) - 1200m. Time: 1-12.52. Track - Heavy 9. Rail - out 4m.

High Roll’n Woman confirmed that she ready to realise the potential she showed a youngster with a facile win in the Quality Gunsynd Handicap for three-year-olds at Doomben.

High Roll’n Woman settled in midfield in the early part. Craig Willaims pulled her out wider on the track as the runners angled into the home straight and the duo then proceeded to produce a trouble-free, measured run home which saw her go past Gundy Son, who had made an early bolt for home, at the 150m mark and race away to win every bit as comfortably as the official three length margin suggests.

Gundy Son’s bold effort was rewarded with second placing. The third placed runner Ashlee’s Jewel is one for the notebook. She couldn’t go early. She was stone last on the turn, yet she still found her way through the field, running on strongly to test Gundy Son for second placing.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Alan Bailey: “We’ll back her up again next week at Eagle Farm. She backs up good. She’s always done alright. She’s only a little filly. Tough little thing, just does its best. We are going to keep her in the three- year-old races. We could aim higher. I don’t think that’s too rich for her. She’ll get into some of those races with nothing on her back – so who’s to know. She’s better in the 3 year-old races though. That way she’ll go back in with 54kgs next week.

Yeah, Craig (Williams) has ridden for me before. When we were in Melbourne he rode a few for us. Joe Bowditch was supposed to ride her (High Roll’n Woman), but he stuck with Gundy Son. You can understand why, because when Glen (Colless) comes back and he’ll ride this filly and then Joe misses a ride on both. Joe would have liked to have ridden her, but that’s the way it works out, you know.”

Jockey Craig Williams (who was celebrating a winning ride on his thirty-second birthday): “I was really surprised when I first walked the track before the meeting. For the amount of rain you had during the week, I thought the track did a fantastic job. Of course we went to the second race and were in the gates when we had that downpour of rain and there is a big difference between the first and the third race now. This track is now a genuine heavy.

“She handled the going well enough in the end, but it just shows you, you know, even if have a good wet tracker you are still going to dip and dive through the track. She jumped well. She got into a lovely position. There was a really hot pace in the race. At the 500m I was a bit concerned about her. She was struggling to stay on the back of the horses in front. I had to give her a couple of reminders behind the saddle to get her back on the bridle. She wasn’t getting through the track. She is all heart. She is not very big. They’ve done a great job with her. She really wanted it. She is very gutsy and she wanted to win today.

High Roll’n Woman began her career with a flourish, winning her first three starts in a row. She then produced another quality result by finished third in the 2yo Magic Millions Classic. Wins have been harder to come by since then, but the filly did get back on the scoreboard in the final start of her last preparation. She confirmed the fact that her career was back on track when just touched off by Cat Eyes when resuming, and then underlined that point by doing a tremendous job in not the easiest of circumstances here. High Roll’n Woman has now won five of her fourteen starts.

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (High Roll’n Woman): 4.20 out to 4.40.
The winner was the favourite.
