SCST NOV 29 - TASTY TIDBIT TOO STRONG FOR HIS RIVALS

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Sunshine Coast, November 29, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - True.
Class 1 Handicap - 1400m. Time: 1-25.54.
1 Tasty Tidbit; 2 Upi Bay/D'lordson (dead-heat).

The Bryan Guy trained Tasty Tidbit powered away from the opposition mid-straight to open up a winning advantage. The chasers were closing at the line, but the three-year-old had done enough to secure his second victory from only six starts.

This result gave the Bryan Guy / Jim Byrne combination the first two winners on the card.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bryan Guy: “We’ve had him the whole time. I bought him as a yearling for $70000. I’ve always had an opinion of the horse. He raced on two wet tracks in his first prep and he went ordinary.

“I spelled him. I brought him back. First-up he was there and he dropped out. Second-up he won at Ipswich and he won very impressively.”

Tasty Tidbit then finished third just 0.75 lengths behind Tierqualo in his next start. The merit of that run was underlined when Tierqualo went to town on Saturday and finished third, only beaten 1.50 lengths by the more-than-useful Princess Qualo (at level weights).

“I honestly thought he would be a Group horse and I still think later on he is going to be. He’s not there yet, but I do think later on he will be.

“He’s going to go to the paddock tomorrow. I’m putting him straight out. He’ll have a break now. He’ll have two or three months in the paddock and then I’ll bring him back. Hopefully he’ll be stronger and everything.”

Jockey Jim Byrne: “You know what, the horse over-raced early. He is still learning a bit … but every-time I picked the horse up he wanted to find the line a bit better, so it might have a little bit of a future. It was a nice effort.

PRICE FLUCTATIONS:
Winner (Tasty Tidbit): 2.00 in to 1.80.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
After being slow to begin, Dalai (N. Evans) was hampered shortly after the start between Canyouhearthebell (S. Guymer) and Bouillabaisse (P. Hammersley), which shifted out away from the heels of Upi Bay (K. Pope).

Chairmanship (M. Palmer) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in rider M. Palmer becoming unbalanced in the saddle for a short distance. Chairmanship then shifted out and hampered D'lordson (A. Butler) and Branch Stacker (A. Merritt).

After passing the 800m, Branch Stacker hung out across the heels of Upi Bay and had to be checked. This resulted in D'lordson and Way Too Hot (A. Pattillo) being taken wider on the track.

Over the final 200m, Way Too Hot was inclined to lay in, and near the 100m was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running to the inside of Upi Bay, which had a tendency to shift out at that point. Luvenger (J. Kropp) and Canyouhearthebell raced wide throughout.

M. Palmer, rider of Chairmanship, which weakened over the final 200m, explained that, in his view, the gelding failed to run out the 1400m of today's race. A post race veterinary examination of Chairmanship failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
