HE'S A DEVIL STRIKES AT THE TENTH TIME OF ASKING

By Graham Potter | Friday, November 11, 2022

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained He’s A Devil gave the stable their fourth winner for the month of November when he saluted in a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Warwick on November 11.

While it did take He’s a Devil some time to find his feet … he won at his tenth start … like many of the Sears trained runners the son of Tycoon Ruler had shown he was warming to his task after securing two runner-up finishes in his two races leading into the Warwick contest.

Jake Molloy had a job to do early on He’s a Devil (the $2.10 favourite) … namely having to decide what his best option was and then to implement his choice of action from the wide draw.

He, ultimately, elected to push forward, cross runners and settle He’s A Devil in a very handy second place in the running, a position the four-year-old held throughout the sweep to the home turn, chasing some three lengths off the leader Kiss The Lass ($8).

Kiss The Lass, who carried 2.5kg less than He’s A Devil, tried to pinch it on the turn, but Molloy and He’s a Devil were having none of that.

The deficit was down to two lengths on straightening … approaching the 200m mark He’s A Devil was almost alongside Kiss The Lass … by the 150m mark they were matching strides alongside each other … and, by the 100m mark He’s A Devil had gained the advantage and he would go on to stretch that lead to two lengths at the line to ensure that when he finally got on the winners scoreboard he did so in convincing fashion.
