MCDONALD TAMES THE WORLD TO OFFICIALLY TAKE OUT THE 2022 LONGINES WORLD'S BEST JOCKEY TITLE

Australia has claimed many things from New Zealand – I mean who would not want to be branded or known as an Aussie!

Pavlova – the fluffy cloud of white goodness that will adorn most Australians' Christmas tables in a few weeks – topped with cream, strawberries. Blueberries, mango and a sprinkle of grated chocolate.

Then there is Russell Crowe born in New Zealand, raised in Australia and a true “Gladiator”.

Then there is Phar Lap born in New Zealand however, raised and trained in Australia to go down in history books of racing. He was a symbol of hope and triumph for Australians in the depression in the 1930’s.

Fast forward to 1992 – another champion is born and somehow migrates to Australia – James McDonald.

Let me say we have claimed him as well ... and that is why racing enthusiast in Australia (ok, and in New Zealand) will be very proud of the fact that it has been officially announced that McDonald is 2022 LONGINES World's Best Jockey.

He won the title with nine qualifying wins on five different horses. He is the second Australian rider to win the Longines World's Best Jockey Award, following Hugh Bowman's dominant win in 2017.

The title is decided under the auspices of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA), with points being allocated points to each jockey according to the results of the designated top one hundred G1 races around the world ... with a win claiming 12 points, a second placing 6 points and a third placing 4 points.

With the title of the 2022 Longines World’s Best Jockey behind is name, what heights will J Mac career climb to next?
