SINGLE DIZIRE MAKES A WINNING RETURN

Not that it makes any real difference ... you take your winners whenever you can get then ... but it is always nice to kick off a new month with a winner and that is exactly what the Tony and Maddysen Sears Training partnership did when Single Dizire saluted in a BM65 Handicap over 1000m at Toowoomba on December 3.

The Not A Single Doubt mare had not raced for seven months (since May 7) and so was pretty easy to back at a starting price of $7.50 ... drifting from an mid betting call of $4.80 as bookmakers kept the Sears trained runner safe in the early market.

Stephanie Lacy made great use of the number one barrier draw when chasing Single Dizire into an immediate lead and she then produced a clever ride, doing enough to keep Single Dizire in front while, at the same time, ensuring that the gallop was a measured one and that Single Dizire would have more to offer when it mattered most.

That moment came at the top of the home straight, where Lacy asked Single Dizire to skip away from the runners who had backed up behind her, and she sprinted away in the early part of the straight to open up what would prove to be a winning lead.

As it turned out, being first-up after so long, Single Dizire needed most of that three-length advantage she had opened up in the first half of the straight to finish off the job as the $2.70 favourite Lime Soda, who came from last, and another $7.50 chance Devi’s Rite, stormed home late, closing ground quickly on the Sears trained runner .... but not quickly enough, leaving Single Dizire still a length to the good at the line.

This was a very positive return to action by the four-year-old who can now boast a race record of four wins from ten starts with $102 800 banked in prize-money.
