IPSW DEC 10 - TWO OUT OF TWO FOR INANNA THIS PREP

By Graham Potter | Saturday, December 12, 2009

Ipswich, December 10, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 6m.
Class 3 Handicap - 1015m. Time: 58.52.
1 Inanna; 2 Moonan Kathleen; 3 Martha's Vineyard.

The Laurie Richardson trained Inanna had scored a fighting midweek city win last time when racing first-up at Eagle Farm and she reproduced that telling effort to make it two wins from two starts this prep.

Inanna’s natural speed took her up second spot early where jockey Jason Taylor was happy to position her a half-length to a three-quarters-of-a- length back on the outside of the front-running Martha’s Vineyard.

These two runners carted the field up to the home turn and into the straight where Taylor asked a little more from Inanna. As Inanna looked to pressure Martha’s Vineyard, the leader quickly showed she would be no pushover as she found an extra gear herself and kicked on with meaning.

Inanna took that challenge in her stride and stuck to her task, gradually reeling in Martha’s Vineyard to get to the front 50m from the line. She wasn’t quite safe yet though as Moonan Kathleen had been closing up on the two front-runners over the final 150m and she flashed late, snared Martha’s Vineyard for second but came up a head short of taming Inanna.

Inanna has now won four of her nine starts and has been placed on four other occasions.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Laurie Richardson: “She is a nice mare. She is probably due to go to town now on a Saturday. Got speed … she’s a good little fighter. I think she will run 1200m, but we are happily caught in this situation where she is running the 1000m good, so why change?

“Jason (Taylor) said he held her up to sit behind that leader today. With the fight that she’s got you’d reckon she will travel nicely in a 1200. She’s two out of two this prep. Can’t argue with that!”

Jockey Jason Taylor: “Yeah, the horse has thrived since its last run. It was a big win last start and another big win today. The form around its last start just read that it should win again today.

“It’s got an absolute ton of speed and she is tough as well … very tough. She just doesn’t lay down. She is a very tough mare and she should go right on with it.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Inanna): 4.20 out to 4.60.
Favourite (Pub Torque): 2.80 out to 3.20 in to 3.10. Finished fifth.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Prior to the race, connections advised that Revered Ruler would be ridden back from the wide barrier, and brought to the outside in the straight.

A pre-race veterinary examination Pub Torque cleared the horse to race. Verridon (M. Hellyer) was re-saddled upon arrival at the barriers.

Moonan Kathleen (L. Rolls) shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in Dr Barnard (J. Byrne) and Oscar The Great (J. Holder) both having to be checked. As a result, J. Byrne, rider of Dr Barnard, became unbalanced in the saddle and lost the use of his off-side stirrup iron for a short distance.

Approaching the home turn, Dr Barnard was held up and unable to improve.

Apprentice J. Daley, rider of Revered Ruler, was advised to refrain from using her whip on runners that are showing no response.
