STRONG WIN FOR GOLD IN DUBAI

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Gold In Dubai’s natural speed made light work of the supposed disadvantage of an extreme out draw to score a sparkling end to end win at Caulfield on Saturday.

The gelding dictated events throughout the running, never letting his rivals into the race to win as he liked, stopping the clock in a good time.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Mark Riley: “I don’t know why it wasn’t reported but this horse pulled up pretty crook after his last run here at Caulfield. He ended up with colic. We got him home and treated him. He recovered really well from that and freshened up nice.

“We wanted to get going (from the extreme outside draw). Look, I’ve never had any bad luck at Caulfield out wide. I won an Oakleigh Plate from out there. This horse is just going from strength to strength. He has done everything right today. I think going into today’s race he had everything set up for him. This horse is so immature, he is going to be better next preparation and he’s going to keep getting better as he gets older.

“I think the mistake we made with the horse is that we tried to make him run a mile. He definitely doesn’t. He wants another challenge as he proved today.”

Jockey Mark Pegus: “You just listen to his (Mark Riley’s) instructions and you can’t go wrong. Mark just said to give the horse a little bit of a canter down to the gates to liven him up and to bounce him out and be positive. I gave him a little stir up just as we went into the machine. He led comfortably. He has been racing better horses than that, so I was pretty confident that he would stick on.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Gold In Dubai): 13.00 out to 14.00.
Favourite (Thorn Lake): 2.40 out to 3.80 in to 3.60.

The favourite Thorn Lake was more than disappointing. He never raised a competitive gallop.
