EF FEB 03 - SISTAGIRL ROMPS IN FIRST-UP

By Graham Potter | Friday, February 5, 2010

Eagle Farm, February 3, 2010.
Track - Dead 4. Rail - out 7.5m.
Maiden Handicap (3yo Fillies) - 1000m. Time: 58.03. (Carrying 55kg).
1 Sistagirl; 2 Klairefontein; 3 Miss Rio.

The Jackie Crompton trained Sistagirl, unwanted in the betting at 16.00, made a mockery of her odds when she easily outgunned her opposition to score by a clear-cut 2.80 length margin.

This was the lightly raced filly’s breakthrough win. It came in her fifth career start when racing first-up after a four-and-a-half month spell.

Sistagirl was always up in the leading line and when Klairefontein went bush at the 600m mark and the balance of the field failed to show any great resolve, Sistagirl stormed to the front and quickly claimed a decisive advantage which was never threatened in the final run home.

Sistagirl was three lengths clear on straightening. She increased that margin mid-straight before Klairefontein, who had done well to stay in the contest after her display of wayward racing manners, and Miss Rio brought the winning margin down to just under three lengths at the line.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Carl Spry: “They gave her a private trial probably two weeks ago ... three weeks ago now ... out at Dalby and I went out and rode her.

“They told me it had a few starts last prep. They did a couple of gear changes today (tongue control bit off first time; bits lugging on first time; blinkers off first time) and it paid off.

“It’s still got a lot of learning to do. It did stargaze the last 50m, but it won nicely.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Sistagirl): 16.00 in to 15.00 out to 16.00.
Favourite (Swingwing): 4.20 out to 4.60 in to 3.80.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Apprentice A. Chau was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on Miss Rio.

Geblitzt (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of Pretzels (T. Treichel). Swiss Strike (M. Speers) also jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with Tycoon Madame (J. Taylor). Blonde'n'dangerous (J. Byrne) was slow into stride.

Leaving the 800m, Sarabah Rose (C. Kearney) was cramped for room between Pretzels (T. Treichel) and Fiorello (D. Browne), which shifted out.

Swiss Strike (M. Speers), which was inclined to hang out in running, had to be steadied when it shifted out across the heels of Tycoon Madame near the 500m. Trainer's representative Mr White was advised that a warning would be placed on Swiss Strike regarding its racing manners.

Klairefontein (G. Colless) was caught wide after the start and was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

On straightening, Swinging (M. Hellyer) shifted out to improve when not fully clear of Pretzels (T. Treichel), which when tiring shifted out on to Grand Reception (L. Rolls), which had to be eased away from the heels of Pretzels. M. Hellyer, rider of Swinging, was reprimanded.

Leaving the 300m, Geblitzt raced greenly and shifted in, brushing the tiring Pretzels. Tycoon Madame (J. Taylor) was inclined to lay in in the home straight.
