CAUL FEB 06 - TYPHOON TRACY STROLLS HOME

By Scott Gooley | Monday, February 8, 2010

Caulfield, February 6, 2010.
Track - Good 3. Rail - True.
Orr Stakes (Group 1 - WFA - Open) - 1400m. Time: 1-24.04 (Carrying 57kg).
1 Typhoon Tracy; 2 Heart of Dreams; 3 Sirmione.

Four year old mare, Typhoon Tracy has secured her third Group One victory - and her first in Open company - at only her eleventh start with an effortless victory in the C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Having her first start since winning the Group One Myer Classic in October of last year, the daughter of Red Ransom was sent out a dominant $1.40 favourite for the event and gave her supporters no reason for concern.

Jumping from the inside gate, Typhoon Tracy ridden by Luke Nolen, travelled sweetly in second spot a little over a length behind notable front-runner, Danzylum

At the 600m mark, Nolen allowed the Peter Moody trained mare a little more leather and she moved to the hindquarters of the leader, poised for the run to the judge.

With 300m to run, Typhoon Tracy relieved Danzylum of the lead. Chasing gamely were Heart of Dreams, who had shadowed Typhoon Tracy throughout, and Sirmione.

Inside the last furlong, when Nolen asked Typhoon Tracy to extend, the champion mare responded in good fashion, underlining her authority in the run to the line to record a one and three quarter length victory over Heart of Dreams ($6.50) with Sirmione ($81.00) a further short head behind in third.

It was Typhoon Tracy’s eighth career win and took her total prize money over $1.4m, a total that looks set to grow as, post race, Moody revealed ambitious plans.

“I think she’s still got nice improvement off the back of that.” he declared.

“We’ll go to the Futurity in two weeks. These were the two races we targeted. Then there’s a hell of a lot of options after that, but we haven’t pencilled anything in beyond the Futurity.”

When quizzed on the possibility of an overseas campaign, Moody preferred the offerings available to his mare at home.

“There are just so many great options here. When you have got upwards of a dozen Group One’s in her bracket - 1400m to a mile - in the next three months, it would be a tall order to take her away.”

“Although the owners are open-minded, the favoured option would be to stay here, but I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

Raffaello raced wide without cover throughout. Heart Of Dreams was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.
